Are The Packers...Boring?

Holly Phelps, writing on our NFL Blog "The Other 31", says the Packers are "boring" this time of year and contends that a division rival is the "most volatile" franchise in the NFL.

Indeed, at least according to Holly over on our NFL Blog "The Other 31".

Money quote:

So, the other day on Twitter, I argued that the Packers seem boring, and that it’s a good thing.  My take on it was (and is) simply that while some teams around the league are making a lot of noise in the offseason, it’s nice to cheer for a team that realizes it has most of the pieces already in place to achieve its goals.  It’s refreshing to not be agonizing over starters at skills positions.  Let the Bears and Lions make big splashes in free agency.  We’ll see whether ‘winning’ in March is worth a darn in October.

Holly goes on to posit that the Minnesota Vikings are the most volatile franchise in the NFL. Not sure I agree completely there, but it makes for interesting discussion. Be sure to check out the post and let Holly know what you think in the comment section.

If boring means more winning seasons in the future then I like it. Theyre not a boring team on the field and that's all that matters.

Easter Sunday, and you're already trying to get me in trouble. Well, sir, since you don't agree with my vote, aren't you going to tell me who you'd pick?

Volatile to one person is dynamic to another.

That said, I'm fine with being boring if it means the team is consistently good. Not so much if it mean's we're consistently bad.

I'd argue that the Bears have been more volatile than the Vikes in recent years, and that the Redskins year in and year out are consistently in flux.

That's why the Vikings, Bears or Lions have as many championships as us, we build from within we get stronger from within. No weak links from the outside, thats why the Packers will always be the diamond in the NFC North cause the other 3 teams in these division think that money equals winning but in reality it equals years without a superbowl.

After the past few off seasons, I`ll take boring at this point. Its relaxing, I`ll even say its more relaxing now to be a Packers fan then being a Queens fan right now.

As long as Dan Snyder is in DC it's gotta be the Redskins doesn't it? They are on their 7th coach and have had about a dozen starting quarterbacks since the turn of the century. They are the biggest player(suckers) in free agency just about every year. Are you in your 30s? Did you USED to be good like 3-4 years ago? Well then come on down to Washington and take this wheelbarrow full of money to fade away into obscurity for us! There drafting has been borderline pathetic. Dan Snyder is just constantly doing crazy things. Take their last HC....Zorn was hired as OC, then two weeks later coach, then was stripped of playcalling duties less than two seasons later for a guy who was out of the league and calling BINGO games parttime, then fired a month later. You can't make that stuff up!

They are just a complete mess.

I assume the post above me was written before the McNabb trade, which is funny.

Surely you just have to look at what's happening with the Steelers, with Roethlisberger and Holmes, and any team in the league (Steelers included) would take boring after that.

I don't think the Packers are boring by definition, I think they're boring to the media because the town's market is small and there aren't a lot of 'sexy' stories coming out of Lombardi Avenue. We have some great personalities on the team (Jennings, Driver, Aaron Rodgers threw a cabbage at Tony Moll on ESPN for crying out loud) who are often simultaneously quite nice and generous people. I don't envy what any other team has.
