House Calls Boykin Most Difficult Packers WR to Cover

As part of a Q&A session with fans on his Twitter account on Tuesday, Green Bay Packers cornerback Davon House made one eyebrow-raising comment.

Asked who is the difficult wide receiver on the Packers to cover, House responded:

While few would argue that Boykin emerged to have a good 2013 season with 49 catches for 681 yards and three touchdowns, it was House's omission of Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb that perhaps caught people by surprise.

Both Nelson and Cobb have proven more than Boykin and are generally considered the top two wide receivers on the roster. Both also have contracts expiring following the 2014 season and are expected to receive contract extensions before reaching free agency.

There's a few ways you can take this...

First, CHTV needs to get that GB - SF "Latest Stats" game removed from the "visit the game page" area. Put the prior game against the Bears in there instead. Or is this supposed to be a source of inspiration?

Rather House's epiphany on Boykins come from outside the same locker room, but still it's good to know Boykins is held in high regard by a fellow pro .... regardless of what House's coverage skills are like. Still would like to see the Pack draft a tall long-striding WR somewhere in this draft. Just one injury to that unit and we're very very thin.

I'm a big fan of Boykin, but I feel like it's becoming increasingly trendy to call him out as a dark horse. Just yesterday I saw an article proclaiming him to be the 2nd best 3rd WR in the league. That might be a stretch. I think the guy has potential and I suspect will make himself some good money in the next couple years, but maybe we're exaggerating how potent he really can be.

Last off-season one Greg Jennings commented to the effect that Boykin was going to break out in 2013, at a time when GJ was showing no love to other members of this team. Now House calls him the most difficult WR to cover. Then there is this - Boykin emerged when the Packers were playing musical chairs at quarterback. He's got good size and a pedestrian 40 time, which is something worth remembering at this time of year. I would not write him off as the 2nd best 3rd WR in the league. When you look around the league even this "depleted" Packers WR group still looks pretty darn good.

Shields said pretty much the same thing to the MSJ: "He's one of my hardest guys when I'm pressing." Not surprising since Boykin has a strong build.
