Right on about Justin Fields, and that was proven shortly after this was recorded, when he was traded to the Steelers for a 6th round pick. (It could become a 4th round pick if he plays 51% of snaps next season, which won't happen unless he beats out Russell Wilson or Wilson gets hurt.) After three seasons, Fields has "backup QB" written all over him. He just isn't a very good QB. I was surprised by how many people thought the Bears should keep him (including some Bears fans!) and not draft a QB with that top pick. I was also surprised by how many people thought he had any real trade value.

Justin Fields failed the eye test, week in week out. I wanted the Bears to keep him because, well, Bears doing Bears things. For them to have traded up to pick him, for them to have traded up to pick Trubisky, for the Bears to always do Bears things, well, I guess you have to give them credit for being ...consistent?

A 6th rounder is a slap in the face to their fans though. Jeez. The Bears leadership must have thought having Fields in Chicago would be toxic to the new QB.

It's almost unbelievable how bad Chicago has been drafting QBs. When is the last time they have drafted one, in ANY round, that has turned into a quality NFL QB? I honestly can't think of one in my lifetime. Possibly McMahon and his 100TD/90INT career? They don't even have any luck trading for one. Jay Cutler anyone?

I can't believe da Bares are simply that bad at choosing in the draft. I have to believe they ruin their QBs, kinda like a Midas touch, but in reverse. Hopefully da Bares continue to suck! Being reduced to a single sixth round draft pick in trade for Fields certainly helps that cause ...

I am the most curious to see how the Vikings navigate their QB selection. They could be enamored with one of the top three prospects and hope to swing a trade to land one of them; otherwise there are three other prospects that are widely considered to be first round material. Everybody knows the Bears have fared poorly with drafting and developing QBs for an eternity, but the Vikings haven't been very good at it either because of poor selections or opting for veterans.

Wow Justin Field for a 6th round pick ... ( really ) Sorry boys lets take a closer look. One J Fields got drafted by a crappy Bears team that had a lousy offensive coordinator, Bill Lazor (who) Matt Nagy, and a horrible offensive line... Elijah Wilkinson was the left tackle. As the bears very slowly improved so did J Fields his completion percentage from 58.9 to last years 61.5, yards from 1870 to 2562 ( in 13 games )
Remember he finally got a decent receiver in DJ Moore, who caught 96 passes for 1364 yards. Again not with the best Oline blocking in the world. Like him or not JF is a dynamite athlete and has rushed for 14 touchdowns in three years, he is young and has an NFL arm he was just drafted into a piss poor situation with a franchise that has never developed QBs. Think if he would have had three years to develop behind Rodgers. If you watched bears games as much as I did you could clearly a development in his game and a development with his relationship with Moore. Once again as foolish as the Bears are and have been they should have hung on to Fields and let C Williams developed behind him instead of trading him for a measly 6th round pick.... Steelers got a deal

I'm biased, but IMO, Fields is a dangerous offensive guy, and if you can't figure out how to use that, then the problem isn't the player. With the ball in his hands, he's a terrific run or throw threat. Guys like that don't grow on trees.

Bears have made their choice. Now we can all enjoy watching their plans turn to crap.

He needed Greg Roman as his offensive coordinator. They should have patterned his game on Colin Kaepernick, but no, they tried to turn him into a pocket passer. The guy is just not suited to being a traditional quarterback, he is, as you note, a dangerous offensive guy though he never had the arm or accuracy of Kaepernick or Lamar.

Da Bears, doing Bears things.

Colin Kaepernick had a career 59.8% completion rate. He was a one trick pony that NFL defenses figured out. He was benched at one point during his final year in SF for Blaine Gabbert IIRC.
