I think the secondary not playing up to par was expected coming in. The jags do one thing very very well and that's throw the ball. I think overall the defense held its own and definitely got pressure. I'm really looking forward to how much this defense will improve as the season moves forward.

Gassed Defense I get, especially Daniels and Guion.

Inconsistent offense is especially frustrating. Mostly since it's a lot of the same issues as last year.

I'd nominate Lane Taylor for the good. I watched him pretty closely and if he keeps playing like that, they are going to be just fine at LG.

The offense sure did look like last year early on. They got it going pretty good in the 2nd & 3rd quarter. I hope it is just first week blues after a preseason in which a lot of guys did not get much game action.

Good. Squeaked out a road victory in the first real time together. Stopping the final drive.

Bad. Defense giving up big plays, too many 3rd and 4th down conversions.

Ugly. Morgan burnett. I hope he shakes it off. I know he had a sack but Stevie wonder could have made that play.

The 4th down conversions were driving me nuts. I kept saying that Jax cannot survive all day converted 4th downs over and over. It took until the game ending play for that to play out.

Lane Taylor acquitted himself nicely. I would add that Demarius Randall made some key break ups downfield while in single coverage. The entire secondary performance wasn't all bad.

Overall a solid win against a good team. Should have won by more, but we'll get better as the season goes on. Every team has teething issues in Week 1 now that there are fewer off season practices and starters get less playing time in preseason. The Aaron-Jordy connection will get better.

Exactly. CHTV was Nagler's baby. Now its all grown up and Nagler is a deadbeat Dad shacking up with some new paramour.

For the sake of clarity: I'm joking. Good for Aaron. He's smart and he has worked his ass off.

Still, it's too bad he couldn't continue to contribute Gut Reactions and GB&U.

Aaron owes his soul to the company store now. He is selling his observations, analysis and general football knowledge, which is desired in a timely fashion, so it is unfair to expect him to be a constant presence here.

Yeah, I didn't think the punting was that bad except for the last one.

For the most part I was trying to think of something that was consistently bad. I really don't think there was.

The ugliest thing in the game that I can think of I would say is Rodgers trying to take a 2nd timeout in a row. Which made it go from a 3rd and 4 to 3rd and 9. That could have ended up costing them the game.

Schum's punts all were with a lot of field. It is true that he netted 42.5, but Nortman, the jacksonville punter, had a net average of 62.5 yards. The ball should travel farther in such heat: the humidity was 47%, so it was hot and dry weather. The only knock I had on Masthay were punts under pressure and failure to ever flip the field. So far, same old same old.

The humidity was 47%. At 95 frigging degrees! That is NOT dry weather. haha. I live 2 hours from JAX, and it was BRUTAL yesterday. Even the locals were complaining about playing a home week 1 game.

It's hard to agree with the Secondary getting the Ugly when they only gave up 1 score.

They were between Good & Bad (a lot of yards and 4th down conversions BUT only 1 score and key 4th down stop)

Coming into the game everyone knew the Jag's key players were their 3 pass catchers and the only way to upset the Pack would be if those 3 had big games.

That didn't happen because of the secondary.

The rest I can agree with.

The officiating crew could have called 4 more PI penalties on us. They could have called 2 more on jacksonville, including on the pass that Adams caught for a TD. Maybe the DBs realized that the crew was letting them play and adapted. That would be a generous view.

Good: Talent insane enough to throw a rope while being pulled down.

Bad/Ugly: Letting the play clock nearly expire on seemingly every snap. I started wondering if perhaps the Jacksonville clock operator was starting the play clock too early.

Road win , extreme heat , remember the starters have not really played much in the pre season , Jordy TD was great , the offense will come together , the O line a little sloppy but give them a few games , packers punt returning was not good letting those few punts drop in between the goal and the 5 , but the sun seemed like an issue, Packers punting was not great either hopefully that will improve . Also as usual conservative play calling by MM , why can't he just let Rodgers make all the calls in th red zone , time will tell .

You know he usually starts the season slow and picks it up late into the season and post season.

If this helps any, I remember him bending the corner on a pass play pretty good. The burst is gone, but the mechanics are still there. Lol

My take. Mike confirmed his mo. This is a run team, he will g conservative when ahead and basically give the other tam another shot.
You're at the five and you run three times and ignore rogers arm and leg to put the game away. Hey he did this seattle playoff game. When does he get it thks aint workin? Never because he has athink I will prove the world wrong, we will run the ball.
Ps the pass defense is so bad this team has zero chance of a SB.

1st game of the year. A lot of unscouted looks makes play calling harder. Let the rust wear off this game should have been won by 10+. WTF, if they would lost this game? It's one game, 1-0, pull yer heads out of the oven.

Also let's add that the Jaguars have added however many people players to the defense from last years team. The coaches honestly didn't have a lot of tape to go off of for the defense.

This is the same old same old McCarthy...Pack down at their own 2 yard line ..first play incomplete pass, 2nd play, now everyone call it...cone on, I know you can call it right, cause MM has been doing this for years---hand off to Lacy which doesn't get much , and once again we end up punting from the endzone--I wish MM would steal some plays from another team so Rodgers might average more than 5.7 yards per. I DON'T WANT ANOTHER YEAR LIKE LAST YEAR'S OFFENSE.

I was at the game, so perhaps my perception was off, but until the end of the game, it was the TEs up the seam killing us, not the WRs.

With the playmakers JAX has at the skill positions on offense, I think things went pretty well.

I'm not happy with the (lack of) offense from the mid-3rd on. Nor was I happy with the ILBs on D. But they won, there were no injuries, and there were some really good moments.

Bring on the Queens.

The Good: Aaron Rodgers, Jordy Nelson, CM3
The Bad: Quinton Rollins, Clark, Lowry
The Ugly: Morgan Burnett, Schum, The heat

The Packers need to come up, with some plays to get out from under the shadow of their own goal line. For the last few seasons they have a tough time picking up a first down or two when they start inside their own 10. It happened twice today without a 1st down. Otherwise the offense executed pretty well until their final possession in the 4Q when they went 3 and out after picking up 8 yards on 1st down. How do you get a delay of game after coming back from a timeout? 1st game blues I guess. I think we were injury free! On to Minnesota. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since '61

What I say is this....the defense will be no better than last year, and will not improve until they dump Capers. This is ALL scheme related and that guy is waaaaay past his prime and should have been relieved of his duties 2-3 years ago. They won't beat really good teams with pass defense like that. Totally sick of that guy and his lousy defenses and no idea HOW he still has a job.

The inability for this offense to ever look like a Mike Holmgren offense, and actually look "in sync" is disturbing. Do they ever run any plays that get people wide open, or is every play going to be ad lib by Rodgers this year?

The most positive thing you can say about today is, "they got a win" when they very well could have given it away. This is not what I expected out of the Packers. I was looking for something different than the last 2-3 years of frustration.

I feel like Adams catches every ball that he has no business catching and drops many of the easy ones. That TD throw and catch before half was amazing. Good win against a vastly improved Jags team, they have quite the collection of skill position talent on offense. The run D looks promising as well. Lots to look forward to this year. Go Pack Go!

A "good" is that we got the Jags out of the way early. I bet before it is all over that Jacksonville will help us out in the NFC North. I think they are better than the Bears and the Lions, and they just may be able to take down the Vikes down the stretch. A Queens December loss could be huge for us.

Good - Rogers ability to scramble early and often
Mathews, one of the best games I've seen him play ever, ditto Perry
Bad - piss poor play calling inside the 20 and again, Mike trying to play Mr Conservative with 4:27 seconds left. Ya Mike lets make sure all our games are close ones instead of putting it away. 3 runs from the 5 when you have Jorday, Rogers, Cobb????
Ugly - the level of play of our dbacks and that includes Ha Ha always out of the play watching. These guys are to slow and to small to cover. They play way back and allow tons of short passes. This will kill this team this year. Almost did yesterday.

Good:

3rd Quarter, 7:08, 1st & 10

I don't know if Martinez was blitzing or he just knew it was a run play, but this guy darted through the O-Line and stepped over the garbage to make a nice tackle. The more you watch it over the more you lean towards him just quickly diagnosing the play and attacking vs his assignment being a blitz.
