Packers Vs. Dolphins - 3 Plays That Make You Go Hmmm

Jersey Al picks out three thought-provoking plays from the Packers' last game.

After re-watching the Packers game, here are three plays that made me go hmmm, for various reasons.

Rodgers Sack - I. Don't. Understand. With plenty of time to just chuck the ball out of the end zone and come back with another crack (or two) at the end zone from the six-yard line, Rodgers stands there and takes a sack. Of course, I do actually know why - Rodgers is determined to make a play and throw a TD pass, but sometimes that determination works against him. He's looking for Lazard, who is streaking across the middle, but doesn't throw it. Then Cobb finds a hole in the zone and sits at the three-yard line all alone, but by that time, Rodgers is under pressure. A fling out of the end zone would have been the smart thing to do, but...  One more thing - if you're not sure how much attention Watson is now drawing in the red zone, note how three Dolphins run to cover him (and that's why Cobb is all alone).

Jaire Whiff - I've watched this so many times, trying to devise a realistic excuse for Jaire, but I just can't convince myself of anything that would excuse him of such negligence. Yes, Waddle is fast, but Jaire is five yards ahead of him. He just needs to slow his final approach and use the sideline as his friend to guide Waddle toward out-of-bounds. Jaire makes it easy on Waddle by letting his own momentum work against him and ends up with a pathetic arm whiff that accomplishes nothing.

Play of the Year - I've been watching football for a loooooong time. I'm fairly certain I've never seen a player take out three other players in one shot. But what really makes this the play of the year is Lazard standing there and finger-counting the fallen defenders. Hilarious!

Yessss. Instead of calling it pancake blocks...for Lizard they ought to put together a compilation of Lizard Licks!

He should just whisper in their ear (with snot bubbles present)." you just been lizard-licked!" (wear a Geico gecko shirt under your jersey, and lift it up like ol#55 use to for the Pack)

Okay, now play suffocating D against the Vikes, to the point they turn purple!

In regards to #12's sack, I would rather see #52's sack...when he was playing.

J"air"e, nuthin but aire on that attempt. I did thoroughly enjoy his interview with Pam Oliver after the game...loved his narrative...he is a funny one, that dude.

That was easy...

I thought I left a rather humorous insider joke reply to your last line there but apparently Jersey Al doesn't appreciate our particular brand of gutter humor. Merry Christmas Burpy!

The Jaire whiff: Making that tackle is easier said than done; Waddle probably blows by him either way. In this case you just tip your cap to the play design and the receiver.

Nah. Totally inexcusable whiff.

--Douglas was toast the whole first half, but then adjusted and setup Tua like a set of bowling pins.
--Well, playing against these two great WRs should get us ready for Vikes.
---Lowry is finally gone, replaced by a speedy, smallish WR from Rutgers, Bo Melton. He caught 55 passes his senior year with a poor QB and O line, can also return punts.

""""--Lowry is finally gone, replaced by a speedy, smallish WR from Rutgers, Bo Melton. He caught 55 passes his senior year with a poor QB and O line, can also return punts.""""

Melton was the guy taken after the Packers took Tariq Carpenter.

The 7th round of that draft now has Carpenter, Melton, Ford, Walker, and Toure. Carpenter, Walker, and Toure are already guys that we suit up on the Gameday roster. Throw in our other Day 3 guys....Doubs and Tom, and Enagbare with the last pick in the 5th, and that means that next year we could have 8 Day 3 picks from this draft in uniform. Add in Walker and Wyatt and Watson and Rhyan and we're looking at 12 guys who'll be in their second year next season. Undoubtedly, many of them will have improved by then.

Jaire Whiff: Amos was just as bad on that play. He could have shoved that midget Hill into the ball carrier. Either one of these defenders could have ended that play at midfield and neither one of them looked like they wanted to get their skirts dirty. I'm not asking for a blowup hit, but you can at least push him out of bounds.

Lazard. We can replace him as a pass catcher a lot more easily than we can replace his blocking. We should try to keep this guy, IMO, unless it's just financially impossible. A WR group in 2023 of Lazard, Watson, Doubs, and Toure would be good enough to win with.

The Sack: He rarely takes those...good QBs rarely take those. I've seen him get rid of it hundreds of times instead of taking that sack. But it happened.

So, if you're saying Lazard is a tight end, I completely agree with you. He is and should be a field stretching tight end. He blocks like a true tight end and has field stretching ability like Jermichael Finley. He should be a tight end. They should extend him with that understanding.

Instead of being an above average blocking WR, we'd make him an undersized, below average TE. That sounds like a plan.

he's a better blocker than any of the tight ends other than big dog, also too, undersized? Jermichael Finley 6' 4 1/2" 247, Alan Lazard 6'5" 230.

LOL, I have seen him get rid of it hundreds of time too....Normally when he's pissy about the WR route not ran the way he wants it.

When i saw the " The Jaire whiff " i didn`t catch the number and thought who the hell was that , so disappointing . If it happen in the middle of the field so be it but no excuse when he had the sideline to help make the tackle .

Hey Al, with Watson counting off his three touchdown game and Lazard counting off his three bowled over defenders, you should have enough pics to make a collage of three Packers players counting to three for the header image of your 3 Plays articles! Probably not good closeup shots of Watson and Lazard like the Jones pic you're using, but hey, one can dream.

The Jaire whiff had me too. When I saw it live I knew it was Savage or Ford but when I saw 23 on the replay I was amazed.
One other thing is that Douglas got an INT looking into the backfield instead of covering but he also got burned. Wish he would tone that down some especially when a non-concussed QB has the ball.
