The overrated 9’r D was on their heels most of the game. The Packer D was on their heels the last four minutes.
The NFL had better develop a training program for spotting the ball.
How did Purdy(boy) find his way into the MVP conversation; check downs and dropped INT’s describe his day.
I’m sick of the 9’rs and their coaches and organization—especially their GM. He’s a smug….
We nearly pulled it off folks—any self respecting 9’r fan realizes they dodged a bullet.
Go Packers!!!

The group represented themselves very well, think back to October they've come along way.
The Good: obivously the young kids believed in themselves, mixed in few vets that came around.

The Bad: Some decided that Carlson could be trusted sorry for the young kid but all season he ran out to the field lke he already missed I know Crosby was old but think back how many times he nailed those 40 yarders. Has to be a kicker that can be brought in next season Packer fans take their football very serious as they should 58 years for me I live and die with them. I have to stream the games hardly ever on here in New England.

The Ugly: Joe Barry stamped his ticket for another season sorry MLF is too loyal so we all can get our insults ready for next season. Guy is clueless

Goodbye to Bak, Savage (no great loss) AJ Dillon, softy Stokes, Carlson (hardly knew ya)
and Campbell too bad can't stay healthy.
Jones has to comeback just way too important. Lifetime Packer

THROWING THE FLAG - Comon Aaron, you can NOT pin a "BAD" on Darnell Savage for dropping a possible INT in Q1. If you do you better include Jorden Love for throwing the back breaking interception that was thrown so short there were 2 defenders in between our receiver and the line of scrimmage and the guy that picked it was the furthest from the receiver and closest to the line of scrimmage. There were plenty of single bad plays Aaron, how about the 9 year old style bump attempt tackle that nudged McCafrey as he waltzed in for a touchdown, it wa like hitting a pot hole on I-43..... a little bump but hardly missed stride. Pretty bad Aaron, and there is plenty more. Hanging it on Savage is pretty short sighted.

I'm just saying......

True. I'm not sure Savage should be credited for a PBU on that play. Of course it would have been better had he caught it. If we wanted that sort of thing Gutey would not have given away Rasul Douglas for nothing, and then added insult to injury by pretending the offer was too good to turn down. How many turnovers did Rasul create for Buffalo? No way does a rookie third rounder contribute what Rasul could, next season either.

Savage overall played well this season, including some good tackles in this game. He got beat in a couple scoring spots, in ways nobody else on our team was succeeding at either. Whether Gutey keeps him and tries to improve the room, or replaces him instead? I think all options are on the table, and cap space is basically non-existent for one more season ...

I wouldn't blame Savage-
I just wouldn't resign him.
The upgrade is obvious.
The Douglass trade was for cap relief.
And Gutey wanting to make up for those
#1s that never turned out.
If we can do without Douglass.
We can do without Savage.

I agree with you on Savage. He is a guy who does something’s well but isn’t consistent. He’d be an excellent 3rd S and situational robber type, but he’s not an ideal starting S in this scheme that I’d pay at the rate he’s likely expecting. Unfortunately, he’s too much of a gamble to retain with a new DC unless there’s absolutely no market for him. I think someone will see him as a fit in their system.

Sometimes you have to say that adequate isn’t going to cut it. We have to try and be better. Savage is a guy that we probably need to move on from to do that, just as Lowry was and Myers and Runyon are.

As to your inevitable Gute poke, which is as usual desire over substance, the extra 3rd rounder now could be valuable in improving our OL or retooling at S. At this point Douglas would be entering his last year and thus would have been someone we had to replace and probably really wouldn’t have helped much yesterday. We’d probably still be talking about if he can move to S a lot this winter.

Gute won this year, on Love and the offensive skill players. Now we need to give him a DC he can use the picks on as productively. This is the year when we have the ammunition to change on D. Im resigned to more LaFleur, but let’s see if he’s learned any lessons as a HC.

Love played better than Purdy and had less interception worthy throws. Very well other than maybe 3 throws. I’ve watched Favre and Rodgers make similar mistakes as the last one, awful as it was. It happens. Ask yourself how we came to be in that position and the real issues to be addressed start to emerge.

The good… I guess the season, because there is nothing good about winning for 59 minutes and finally losing.
The bad… Savage dropping an int, missing a tackle on McCaffrey’s 39 yard TD, and getting lost on Kittle’s TD. Carrington Valentine, Carlson, Gary, and a few of MLFs decisions were bad also.
The ugly… the results of a packers blitz package. Overall the blitzes were resulting in positive yardage for SF.
As long as this team sheds Barry, Savage, Bahktiari, Stokes, Campbell , Smith and Carlson , it’s all good.

He’s signed through 2027 (via an extension signed in 2022). The issue is that they did an extension to help us with cap this year. His cap hit this year went down from 11m to 6.3, at the cost of being 16.5 million next year (and marginally more the next 2).

If we cut him we have dead cap of 14 million next year and only save around 2.5m (pre-June 1). So I think he’s on the roster to start the league year. I would think that they rework his deal sometime thereafter, if not before. It’s probably in both sides interests as our cap really starts to improve the following year.

P Smith has played GREAT all season long! Most of the stats that have shown up never would have happened without his contributions.

Campbell has done some very good playing, but they both have worn down this season. Cap space & cost benefit analysis will make for some difficult decisions that nobody likes.

Compare Mason Crosby's record to Carlson's, Crosby wasn't this good until 5 years into his career. They messed with Carlson's mechanics; maybe the idea was to give up after the season but I doubt it because it makes no sense. If he can piece together his natural power with the increased accuracy, he'll be golden; I wouldn't expect his accuracy to substantially improve until his third season taking that route. Look at that missed kick, it was going in and got blown off course.

The long snapper is easier to replace. We joked about the competition for that position but he's been wildly inconsistent. Whelan has done a great job fielding the mess thrown at him, but if you remove the bad holds Carlson's numbers get much better.

Yes, we should already know what we want to do. We should move fast. There is no excuse for letting the talent pool shrink unless you know you have your man in Barry or already lined up. If we are going to change we should have the new DC on board and looking to strengthen his team before others pick up his targets too.

If we have just been dithering, hoping Barry can justify being retained then that would reflect very badly on LaFleur. I’d respect him keeping him more decisively and early than if he repeats the weeks and weeks taken to face the music over prior ST coordinators. That’s not to say I wouldn’t regard keeping him as a big mistake, but at least it would be one of conviction.

Ugly goes to MLF/Gute for not doing something about Carlson. Just like they didn't do anything about Mo a couple years ago.
How can you blame Carlson for performing just as he has all year?
Same basically goes for Joe Barry too.

I'm a bit surprised I got many thumbs down for calling them out on this on the Gut Reactions thread.

I've been saying it for years. MLF is the problem. He is certainly not the worst coach in the NFL and it seems he has done wonders in the last half of the season. But he is not going to get us to a SB by not making hard decisions.

You're on the money. You're going to get thumbs down from those that think everything the Packers do is perfect. As a coach, you don't use "Well, his brother kinda started out the same way and now he's one of the better kickers in the league" as your criteria for keeping him. If that's the case, bring back Equanimeous St. Brown, because he has twice as many NFL years as his bother Amon-Ra, so he should be a first ballot HOF lock. Carlson is a coin flip at best and totally wastes that great run by Jones. He's not getting the hell beat out of him all game like the O and D players. Do your job and make a 41 yard kick.

MLF is a soft coach, it's been stated by many and they're all correct. He doesn't have the backbone or the guts to make tough decisions. He may be the only coach that could have a 32 point lead that late in a game and make it close to the point he was pacing the sideline.

You're right, he is not the worst coach in the league, but he has been and is what we saw yesterday, a playoff loser. He will continue to be that until he makes some tough decisions. Shame of it will be this team might have a good chance at winning it all, but it won't with him and Joe Barry.

Now the same team that crushed a 2 seed on the road and pushed the 1 seed to the brink is absolute garbage. Terrible Coach, the kicker sucks etc.

They just gave us a solid run with the youngest team in the league. I just don’t get it.

The Good has to be the offensive line, they played outstanding football all season keeping Love clean in the pocket.
The Bad has to be Anders Carlson, I know he's a rookie but we knew he would lose us a game so why didn't we bring Crosby back and let this kid learn for a season?
The Ugly has to be losing, ,it sucks period, I really had high hopes for this team after the Cowboys game only to be let down by a ST mistake once again!

while everyone is talking about love's terrible last throw i have not heard much about his decision not to tuck it and run. jones was set to block the nearest pursuer and there was a lot of green grass ahead. maybe a 20 yard gain? or jones could have released and gotten the same yardage with a little flick of a pass. just can't believe love didn't see all the room he had to take off downfield.

Love said in his press conference that he needed to look at film, but perhaps he might have been better off running it “if he could get out of bounds.”

I think that’s the issue. He hesitated to burn seconds running in favor of just throwing it wildly or (better) just out of bounds.

It makes me wonder what LaFleur was doing not stopping the clock in the lead up to the 2 minute warning. Perhaps I am the only one who thought that, as I don’t see others mentioning it. I think it set up the mindset on that last drive despite us having timeouts in hand.

Judgement call, and Love made the wrong decision to pass. But that's about experience and eventual growth. A QB like Fields would have certainly run. But I'd rather see a QB look to pass any day versus run. I mean, what are we - the Packers or the Bears?

He kind of reminds me of that last punter we drafted. He did not look comfortable at all and like he was just hoping this would all work out for him. A lot of this is attitude which results in confidence.

The good? We made it to the second round! Blew out the two seed in their house and took the one seed to the wire in their house, oh yeah, and without Aaron Rodgers, who was no doubt sitting in the dark on his couch in NY doing peyote, smoking banana peels, or sniffing Elmers glue trying to remember what a playoff win was; Heads up to Kenny Clarke, AJ, and the old man, Preston Smith for busting his ass from gun to gun. Jordan love deserves a nod too, for three quarters, he did a good job until the rookie mistakes started. The bad? The kicking game. Not to beat a dead horse, but the kicking has been inconsistent all year long. This time, it burned our asses. Two dropped picks. Two poor throws under pressure. Tackling? what tackling? Better tackling would have won this game. The ugly? I cant really find any ugly This young team is like a tree thats been planted-it will be pruned in the off season and will bear fruit next year!! Game ball to Shanahan. Again he out coached the Packer coach. First he tried to explore weaknesses by not running the best back in the league but passing like a maniac to see what the pack did had to offer.
He knew he had a run game but wanted to see if he had a pass game first.
When that didnt work so well he shifted, key words shifted geats and ran McCaffee all over the place.
He did everything he could to win, not to not lose.
That has been my gripe since the Rodgers days, LeFleur coaches more to not lose to not make mistakes rather then to trying to win and forcing the issues.

This game was ideal for the Packers to take advantage of a weak QB who couldn't hit a barn with a tractor and they failed to do so. You get the worst kicker in college you deserve him. When it was all done, the niners in the end played like the niners and the packers played like the 5-6 packers again.

The Packers lost because of the defensive coordinator. That last drive. How many third and long. Didn't generate enough pressure.
You win by being aggressive. Lafleur is, but Barry is not.

The Super Bowl victory. Did Rodgers win it. No. Pittsburgh had a chance to win the game in the last two minutes. The defense stuffed them to put the game away.

Until LaFleur realizes this, we won't make it to the Super Bowl.

Good .. Getting this far into the playoffs when we all thought this was the year to check out if Love was our QB or not
Bad. MLF....I just think he questions himself too much .... what happened in the Red zone?
Is it because we didn't have Dillon or why didn't we kick a field goal in the 1st quarter...is it because he kept Carlson all throughout the season?
Ugly ... Love's last throw ... We still had time to even get a field goal to tie the game. Was it coaching or inexperience from Love. And the last ugly is Barry

It's still fun to watch the Packer's play with the CheeseheadTV crowd. It makes watching the Packers even more enjoyable whether we win or lose

The Good:
GB showed it can play at a high level against a top tier team - despite coming up a bit short.
The O-line seems to be gelling together; this gives us at least a good starting foundation to shore up next season. What the heck: Wheelen - he fielded a really bad bouncing snap for proper placement on a made field goal. Wilson's hustle play in recovering Nixon's KR fumble 'on the fly'.

The Bad:
Losing Deebo Samuel early on, SF had to at least somewhat revamp their game plan on the fly. It also probably took a little life out of SF's offensive players. This is 'bad' b/c it will artificially make Joe Barry look better yesterday than he should get credit for and give more reason for MLF to keep Barry around ('Barry's D held a high-powered team SF mostly in check. Maybe I'll keep him around').

It ended up not mattering - but it certainly could have. At the end of the game when MLF was calling time outs, why the heck is it better to let the clock run down to 2:00 warning, have SF run a play, then call a TO at around 1:50...instead of calling a TO with 2:12, SF runs a play to the 2:00 warning? Isn't it better to have 2:00 on the clock than 1:50 after SF runs the same number of plays when you're trying to save time?

Both Good and Bad: Love's last throw of the season. Bad for all the obvious reasons. Good in that it likely - better! - stick in his craw all off-season and discipline him more in the future to not do 'stupid, stupid' stuff. Throwing off platform is all fine but that's different than making extremely poor clock/game management decisions on the fly (like Olsen said 'it's not 4th down - just throw it away - it was first and 10 and you have 2 time outs!)

Ugly: Carlson. Someone elsewhere said 'maybe that's why you don't draft kickers'. I think that's a great point -- in that when you draft one, you're completely susceptible to 'sunk cost' and needing to rationalize ad nauseam why he should be kept over another kicker.

Love learned a very tough lesson about understanding the situation you are in, in the moment.

His adrenaline told him it was fight or flight; that it was absolutely now or never, that in this moment it was win it all or go home.. when in truth, he had 3 more downs and 3 time outs in which he needed to take a singular step of moving the chains, one foot in front of the other as you take steps toward the goal.

He fell victim to the lure of the "hero ball" moment, when the situation called for restraint and actually provided time and space to 'live to see another down.'' It was a youthful over reach that cost the team dearly, but it is one I truly believe he will learn from.

Lots of factors contributed to this heartbreaking loss. We're all talking about Anders' miss, lost opportunities on interceptions, etc, and they are all valid examples that had they unfolded differently, we could have seen an outcome more representative of the play on the field- the Packers outplayed the 9ers and should have won this game.

Two things I have NOT seen discussed much- the decision to go for it on 4th & 1 at the 14 yard line with a 3-0 lead when on the road vs. the 1 seed in a playoff game as opposed to taking a FG attempt; and the shift away from running Aaron Jones between the tackles in the second half of the game.

Much like the team as a whole learned the gravity and importance of seizing every opportunity in the playoffs, and the lesson Jordan love learned about understanding with clarity the reality of the situation as opposed to allowing yourself to fall prey to the pressure and false sense of "now or never" in the big moment- I feel that Matt LaFleur needs to walk away from this game with a lesson learned about having the patience and faith in your teams' talent to let the game come to you and embrace the close grind, the long game.. my impression is that MLF got impatient and was somewhat pushing to create the 2-possession lead. I understand the desire, but I also feel this game was played on razor-thin margins and perhaps taking what you are given and trusting your team will continue to handle their business would have been a better policy in some situations yesterday.

Overall, impressed and proud of this team to walk into San Francisco's house as a 7 seed and give the #1 seed all it could handle. This insanely young team- in a rebuild season- under leadership of a 1st year starter- did not get outplayed by arguably the best team in the league. The Packers controlled the outcome and they fell just short. The WILL learn from the experience. I could have never imagined this team would find itself where it landed to conclude the 2023 season. Just amazing.

I feel like we have our Franchise QB and he's so much further along in his development than anyone could have ever dreamed. We have an amazingly talented set of skill position players for the foreseeable future. The OL went from chaos to solidified and seems a strength again. There will be questions at RB and a number of moves on the defensive side of the ball that will warrant scrutiny, but I also believe Gutekunst has shown that when left to do his job unhindered by outside constraints, he is capable of handling the rigors of building an NFL roster that can compete. MLF, while not perfect, has proven his worth over the last 10 weeks and is also learning and growing into the role much like his young QB. MLF has clearly demonstrated that this teams' success over his tenure was not simply a byproduct of his HoF QB running the show; he's not a puppet coach- in fact, he may have been hindered in the past. He's his own man and this is his team.

Looking forward to a motivated off season and what 2024 will bring.

Go Pack Go.

When I think about how they looked at midseason compared to how they look now, the arrow is sharply pointed UP.
At least SOME cap relief and 5 picks in the first 3 rounds? I’ll take it!

Good: the 2023 season , despite the ending. The team is on the upswing.

Bad: Losing in the playoffs to the same damn team all the time.

Ugly: Fans scapegoating various players and/or coaches and staff.
