Voters in Santa Clara will vote on Measure J today, which if passed, would commit $114 million dollars from taxpayers towards the construction of a proposed $937 million dollar stadium in Santa Clara for the San Francisco 49ers.

Even if the measure passes, Oakland Tribune columnist Cam Inman remains skeptical:

"If given the green light today and $114 million in public contributions, questions remain for the Yorks. Will they convince fellow NFL owners to chip in, despite a depleted stadium fund? Will they win over corporate sponsors, including a deep-pocketed one that wants its name on the Yorks', er, Santa Clara's kingdome? Will they get fans to invest in seats and thus ignore Oakland's personal-seat-license turmoil?

More drama could ensue in terms of acquiring land, fighting lawsuits and, of course, raising money. But that drama is a necessary evil, as well as a better alternative to this past decade's stagnant stadium news."

I find it interesting that the San Francisco Chronicle makes no mention of Measure J in today's newspaper, not even in the special "2010 Elections" page on its website.
