5 Takeaways From Packers 24 - 19 Rams: Xavier McKinney Is Worth Every Penny
McKinney has been an every-game difference-maker on the back end of Green Bay's defense.

Xavier McKinney is worth every penny
McKinney kept his incredible start to life as a Packer rolling on Sunday, grabbing a fifth interception in as many games to begin his career with Green Bay, setting a franchise record in the process.
The star safety also had a pick in his final game with the Giants at the end of the 2023 season, meaning he has now tied the NFL record for consecutive games with an interception.
He also scooped up a Rams fumble forced by Kingsley Enagbare, almost had another pick of Stafford, and knocked out what would have been a third down conversion with a big hit early in the game.
There will soon reach a point where teams will have to seriously think twice throwing the ball anywhere in his vicinity
McKinney has been everything the Packers could have hoped for and more, patrolling the deep part of the field and capitalizing on mistakes by the opposing quarterback with staggering consistently.
It is mind boggling that the Giants let McKinney become a free agent. Like the Packers with Micah Hyde back in 2017, or the Bengals with Jessie Bates III in 2023, perhaps they felt paying a safety was simply not a priority, but defenders like McKinney are true difference makers, regardless of their position.
Brian Gutekunst’s track record with signing high-priced free agents was strong before this offseason, and going all out to secure McKinney’s services is another feather in his cap.
Tucker Kraft’s break out party
With multiple players out of this game for the Packers, and facing an embattled Rams defense, Sunday presented an opportunity for one or more of Green Bay’s young pass catchers to make a statement.
It was Tucker Kraft who stepped up to the plate, turning his four catches into 88 yards and two touchdowns and taking a firmer grip on the TE1 spot on the depth chart.
Kraft is quickly turning into a do-everything, high quality tight end, and seems to be improving with each passing week. He takes pride in his work as a blocker, and as a receiving threat, is showing off his top tier athleticism.
He has an impressive ability to avoid being tackled and rumble for extra yards after the catch, as was shown on his 66-yard touchdown catch, as he stiff-armed a Rams defender on his rampage down the sideline.
Kraft’s knack for breaking tackles and turning check downs into chunk plays should make him a valuable part of the offense each week as the easy button for Jordan Love.
Pass rush remains mostly MIA
Another game, another underwhelming showing from Green Bay’s pass rushers.
The Packers failed to make the QB, standing behind a beat up offensive line, uncomfortable with any regularity on Sunday, and the excuse of trying to maintain rush lanes to stop the quarterback from scrambling will not be available against 36-year-old Stafford this week.
Missing Devonte Wyatt, Green Bay’s most consistent source of pressure in the early season, certainly did not help, but the Packers front generated alarmingly little pressure every time they rushed with four.
Fortunately, Hafley managed to dial up some well timed blitzes to help his charges make enough plays to come out on top in this one, but the Packers need more from their front, which is full of highly paid veterans and former early draft picks. The trend is very concerning.
Young defenders close out the game
After Love and the offense were unable to close out the game, the responsibility fell to Hafley’s defense, who delivered the crucial stop, forcing the Rams to turn the ball over on downs and effectively end the contest.
On the decisive 4th and 5 play, it was rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper blitzing up the middle who forced Stafford to get the ball out of his hands, and rookie safety Evan Williams in coverage of Colby Parkinson who broke up the pass.
In his limited usage so far, Cooper has shown real flashes of his potential, and as a blitzer he is electric, flying downhill and getting in the quarterback’s grill in a hurry. As the rest of his role continues to grow slowly, he can be used as a real weapon in that regard.
Williams is going to be a solid defensive back in this league at worst. He is smart and plays with great effort. It was impressive to see him give up a catch on a similar route to Parkinson earlier in the drive, then make the adjustment to knock out the all-important 4th down throw.
A clean day for Brayden Narveson
The Narv-dog had his worst game in the NFL last week versus the Vikings, but rebounded with a solid day’s work in Los Angeles on Sunday, nailing his only field goal attempt from 46 yards and making all three extra points without fuss.
Narveson struck the ball cleanly all day, and with four kicks, there was little doubt the ball would make it through the uprights once it left his foot.
His numbers kicking on the road has been better than at home so far this season, so the key to him sticking around in Green Bay long term might simply be learning to kick in Lambeau, which can be tricky for the uninitiated.

“I guarantee you that Moses was a picker. You wander through the desert for forty years with that dry air. You telling me you're not going to have occasion to clean house a little bit?” — George Costanza
Yes the pass rush must get to the QB. This team will not make it far in the playoffs without a good pass rush. Another thing they need to do is get off the blocks and tackle the runner sooner.
It was good to see Narveson have a good day. I am still surprised it took them so long to find out the problem.

After watching Rasul Douglas a few times this year I think he’s outplayed our corners. He’s stout I run support too. Hafley has a lot of work to do with what is shaping up as a pretty overrated group, except for McKinney who has been outstanding. A few of the rookies look promising too.

Sul played "out of his mind" yesterday! One of Gutey's biggest mistakes, the way he handled that. Only X is better on our defense, but we'd obviously be better if we had both.

Should have brought Douglas back when the Bills released him.

X - Why did the Giants let him go?
Right now he's everything we needed since Collins.
Hope it stays that way.

They would rather pay the average QB, All-Star wages...

Dysfunctional teams gonna do dysfunctional things. Glad we got to benefit from it!

Preach. Look at Baker Mayfield getting the job done after Cleveland gave up. Look at Justin Fields getting the job done after Chicago gave up. Remember when Buffalo traded away Marshawn Lynch?
We throw a lot of crap at our front office, but the Packers organization is a step up from quite a few other organizations.

Did they take away from the punting unit to get the field goals going better? If so, I guess it was a good idea. Just wish we didn't have to take a step back somewhere when we take a step forward somewhere else.

No it didn't work that way (despite the irony if it did)

My main concerns are:
1)Quay Walker. He's regressing.
2)Defensive line is not doing more than last year.
3) Stokes is still not playing at rookie level.
4) Give the ball to Jacobs more.
Positives:
1)Style points don't matter, just the final score. The Packers are not a 'pretty' team to watch but they are usually right there at the end.
2) Reed should be Pro Bowler.
3) McKinney should be a Pro Bowler.
4) Jordan Love doesn't let bad things affect him negatively.
5) Tucker Kraft.
A win is a win so don't forget it.

Quay reminds me of these hyperactive little kids whose brain is going too fast for his own good.
The Dline is 6th in sacks.
This is Stokes last year in Green Bay, he knows it, and he's going to make business decisions.
Jordan Love needs to be more careful with the ball. Three times now, against SF in the playoffs, last week against Minnesota, and this week against LA, Love has turned it over when he didn't need to. It's like tennis...there are forced errors, and there are unforced errors, and all three of those turnovers could have been avoided. I can forgive the one in the playoffs, because it was his first time under the brightest lights and he might improve. But if he's going to make plays like the one that resulted in a TD for LA, then we're going to have a much harder time beating people.
Kraft, despite his fumble against Minnesota, has had a real strong start to this season.

Pass rush: Are we sure that's not a hologram of Rashan Gary out there, because he's almost playing like one...According to former Packers guard Wahle, his technique has to improve, saying that he doesn't get off the ball fast enough and plays too high. I don't know what the deal is; he was an ascending player until December of last year, but over the last 13 games his production has dropped off a cliff.

I thought this team would start off where they left off in the playoffs last season and start out hot and putting other teams down with conviction. I was sadly mistaken about this teams desire to be a real contender and willingness to put in the work to get there. Last season we all were able to see a kick or a few plays that come up short kept us out of a Super Bowl. Nobody hands you a trophy in the NFL. We are still not close to clicking on all cylinders. My expectations have plummeted already. The team needs a good ass chewing and some vets need to be sitting or something. Looking forward to 1-complete game on offense and defense. Kicker did his job this week, with a delay of game penalty. A lot to continue to clean up boys. GPG

"Xavier McKinney Is Worth Every Penny"
Especially when they're in the nickel. We have players that go above and beyond their job descriptions:
Kraft
Whelan
McKinney
Reed
Willis (in his backup role)
*these are true weapons and I like their style!
The Pack is Back baby!!! I am letting my hairy back grow out for the upcoming gales of November (not to be confused with the GALs of November).
Peace, and remember pickle make squishy bookmarker

In the recent Packers vs. Rams game, key takeaways include Xavier McKinney's standout performance, proving his value on the field. Just like in Monkey Mart, where strategy and quick thinking lead to success, McKinney showcased exceptional skills and decision-making, crucial for the team's victory. His worth is undeniable, much like a well-placed upgrade in the game that turns the tide in your favor.

What’s wrong with Jordan Love? He looks overwhelmed.
