NFL Draft Profile: Chris Paul, OL, Tulsa
By BrianMaafi

Name: Chris Paul
School: Tulsa
Year: rSr
Position: Offensive lineman
Measurables: 6’3 7/8" 323 lbs
General Info:
Paul is of Nigerian descent. He attended Jersey Village High School, having played on both the offensive line and defensive line. For his first season at Tulsa Paul redshirted. For the 2018 season, he played in all 12 games, having started eight games at right guard. He gave up 13 pressures and five sacks. For 2019 he switched sides and started every game at left guard. This season he gave up only 10 pressures and two sacks. Paul again switched positions in 2020 to right tackle and started eight games there. He also played half a game at left tackle against USF. He missed parts of two games due to injury. For 2020 he allowed seven pressures and two sacks. For his final season, Paul started 10 games, nine at right tackle and one at left. The former Tulsa Golden Hurricane allowed a career-high 15 pressures, but still only two sacks.
Positional Skills:
Strengths
Paul keeps working and doesn’t give up on plays. He keeps his feet moving and shows a good ability to slide in pass pro; a smooth mover. The redshirt senior is very experienced and versatile having started 38 games in his career and has lined up at every position except center. When beat he shows an ability to recover on film. Paul does an excellent job of extending out his arms to keep pass rushers at bay. He has decent enough arm length to stay at tackle or move inside to guard. Off the snap, in pass pro, he shows a good base with a straight back and his head up. Paul is a very clean player in regards to penalties with only four in 2021 and two in 2020. He keeps his head on a swivel and will help a teammate out if they are struggling. He shows an awareness on film to pass off one defender and pick up another. Paul can get out to the second level and block on screens. He doesn’t get fooled by stunts. Shows good hand placement on film. The former Golden Hurricane is a decent run blocker, more of a positional blocker who uses his length and technique. On film, he has shown he can use his hands independently. Paul shows very good balance on film; he is rarely on the ground.
Weaknesses
Paul sits a bit high in his stance, he needs to bend his knees more. Even when pass blocking he could bend his knees a little more. Off the snap, he carries hands a little low, which losses him time and explosion on his punches. He also ducks his head, not a lot but something that needs to be worked on. His agility is average. He does occasionally let pass rushers into his chest which will get exploited at the next level if not corrected. The versatile offensive lineman is not the quickest off the snap. His body still looks like he could firm up some more. He lacks aggressiveness as a run blocker. Paul could also learn to play with more strength. He could improve his independent hand usage
Fit with the Packers:
Chris Paul is a great fit for the Packers. He is exactly the type of offensive lineman that LaFleur and Gutekunst like to draft. He has good size, is a good athlete, has played four of the five spots, has good overall length, and has a lot of experience. Could unlock some extra agility if he dropped a few pounds. It’s doubtful he will be able to play left tackle at the next level but most certainly will be able to play both guard spots and right tackle. He is technically solid, although there are some things he could be better at and tighten up. For example, if he plays with better knee bend he will get more explosiveness out of his body. He has a high floor, but also still has some growth potential. Paul would be a great day 3 pick that would at the very least provide Green Bay depth on the offensive line. He may be able to develop into a starting-level player.

The kind of guy I'd like out of this draft at OL: a third-day developmental Right tackle/Guard. Paul and Nick Ford are two I like.

Would have to draft him in 5th. As of now the Pack has no 6th rounder and waiting until the 7th may be too late.
Paul would be attractive to the Packers as they value versatile OL to let Butkus and Steno coach him up.
