General Info:

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father played football at Bethune- Cookman. He also had a cousin Attiyah Henderson play at San Diego State. Attended Long County High School. Only the second player in the school’s history to sign with a Division 1 school. He chose Kentucky over Georgia Tech, Purdue, North Carolina State, and Louisville. Redshirted his first year at UK. Davis played in all 13 games as a freshman. Also played in all 13 games as a sophomore with one start. Played in 10 games as a junior in 2020. He missed one game due to COVID protocols.  

Positional Skills:

Positives: 

Great athlete, and it translates to the field. Jamin is quick and explosive, he goes from 0-60 fast. In run defense he can shoot the gaps and take down the runner if the blockers are not quick enough. When he has an alley to the ball carrier, he flies through the alley to the offensive player. He has very fluid hips. He is able to flip them and turn with great ease. It really shows up in his coverage ability. Davis defends the outside zone runs really well; a lot due to his ability to be a true sideline to sideline linebacker. Davis is also a solid wrap up tackler. He has good hands for the interception and does a good job of reading the QB’s eyes. He almost looks like a safety in coverage. The rangy linebacker is always around the ball. The Kentucky product also does a good job of getting skinny and slipping between the gaps and either affecting the running back by blocking a gap or by taking the back down himself. 

Negatives: 

Davis is only a one-year starter, which can cause teams to want to know if he may just be a one-year wonder type guy. That also means he’s still a bit raw with only 11 career starts. Davis does not bring a lot of ‘thud’ when he hits guys. While a solid tackler he sometimes can be a bit of an absorber. He catches the offensive player. While an explosive athlete, he isn’t much of a pass rusher unless he has an open lane. Davis does not trust his instincts at times, he makes the right read but will second guess himself causing him to miss making the play. Weighted in at 234 at his pro day but, looks like he played closer to 225. So, will he be able to keep the weight on? Needs to learn how to stack and shed. He didn’t really do that at Kentucky. He usually just tried to use his athleticism to get off blocks. Davis also needs to learn how to play low and use leverage better. 

Fit with the Packers:

Davis would be a really good fit with the Packers. He fits their size and athleticism thresholds for off back linebackers. His rookie year he could be kind of just a nickel/dime specialist while he gets stronger and learns the game more. He does have one of Oren Burks biggest weaknesses though in that he has trouble getting off blocks. Difference is he’s been a linebacker since high school and even though Burks is a good athlete. Davis is even better, and his coverage skills are already better than the former safeties. When he gets his lane to a ball carrier, watch out! He’s like a blur. They could use him to his strengths early on. He would be a definite upgrade as far as coverage skills go over any linebacker already on the roster. His honest best fit in the NFL though would be as a 4-3 weak side Linebacker. He has enough size though and if he adds some more strength and even pack on a few more pounds. Davis could still develop into an upper tier starting 3-4 weak side linebacker.
