I think GB is crazy not to fill the biggest need that the team still has, Edge rusher. There is no way to ignore Parsons will miss time to start the year and GB can't afford to lose any of the easier games on the schedule to start the year.

A perfect bridge candidate is still available for cheap, j. Clowney. He could even be a 2 year option since he is still only 33 but showing no signs of slowing down. He is projected to get between $3.5 & $5.5 million per year. Why not fill the biggest question mark now and then not worry if Parsons misses 2-4 games?

If GB wants to save more money and get almost the same production from a younger player, then A J Epenesa fits the bill. He is 6 years younger than Clowney but could sign for 1/2 the money after the Browns physical mishap. It serves no purpose to procrastinate and ignore the need while risking the 2 best options on the board, and whose names come up in every free agent articles right now.

Spend the money, fill the biggest question mark, and then we can move on to finding a blocking TE and another depth piece for the OL. Everything else looks to be pretty much solid right now.

I'm not sure who we have giving one downvote to everything regardless, but your points are worth discussing. We have lots of unproven and unknown talent on the roster, in especially important rooms like EDGE and OL. I can see both sides; you want to see what we've got and develop them, but you also want to win.

At TE we really don't have a great blocker besides #85, and we need one to free him up to get the ball. Personally I'd put that as the top priority if Gutey were to acquire anybody. It can have a huge impact on the entire offense, which is otherwise great if we get at least competence from our OL.

The 91 man roster is currently full?

There are a few idiots on here that will downvote my posts without even reading them, Sic. Whatever. GB doesn't have alot of holes left, but they are weaknesses in the roster none the less. If Parsons was 100% then we could ignore this need, but he isn't.

I am a Hawkeye too, so I am bummed Luke Lachey failed his physical. I thought that could be a good marriage for the Packers.

Golf while I usually agree with your takes , I want to ask which young edge gets cut to make room for old vet? I want to see which of our young guys are going to shine. The first four games should be winnable ? After hopefully parsons is back . I rather they focus on TE , but they may now have to wait for cutdowns to find the right player after the two TE’S they wanted to sign failed their physicals ?

"The first four games should be winnable." I agree they are and we need them to be wins, RD. The problem with the pass rushing need is that obviously Parsons will miss time and need time to get back up to speed. All of the guys behind him have accomplished nothing, and that's what's scary. We are depending on those 5 question marks to hold down the fort until Parsons is good again.

We absolutely can't go 2 & 2 those first 4 games. If one guy has to go to the practice squad, it's the small guy from Oklahoma State. I also want to see what the younger guys can do, I think DDS will rise to the top and could displace LVN if he continues to plod along.

He's putting his chips on Sorrell, who I like coming off the edge. The 5th year deal to Van Ness protects his ego
and they probably want to feature Cooper coming off the A gap blitzes, instead of wasting his talents playing coverage because Q Walker was clueless. Your guy will have to be Dennis-Sutton.

Part of me agrees with you. The other part is wanting to see what Oliver brings to the table as a situational rusher.
He spent some time with Micah's trainer this offense season working on his pass rush. He also had a 31.8% pass rush win rate before being hurt in college.
Pre season should be a good gauge as to where the unit sits as a whole.
They may be planning on more rush from the interior.

I feel a lot better about losing Emanuel Wilson if he wouldn't have signed with GB because he wanted a better chance to play more. It seems Seattle isn't making that a sure thing, but I'm not ready to say he lost due to this move. The only way GB didn't is if Marshawn Lloyd can both play significant snaps AND demonstrate that fumbling issues are behind him.

Wilson's upcoming departure from GB was leaked very soon after the season ended, which makes me think that he did not want to come back. He needs to make his money while he is still young, and in Green Bay he was going to be behind Josh Jacobs for at least another year and behind Marshawn Lloyd for at least two more years, plus Chris Brooks was still going to be getting a good number of snaps coming off the bench. Better for Wilson to go somewhere new, where he should have a better chance of playing more. Not sure that's going to happen in Seattle now that they drafted a RB in the first round. Wilson may already be wishing he had gone somewhere else.

This podcast by Andy reminds me that although I like the Packers' starters about as much as I did last year, or maybe even more, they have less depth in some areas. Most of the players Andy lists as winners are benefitting from the lack of real competition at their positions--or in the case of the WRs and edge rushers, the reduced competition.
