Packers 2025 NFL Draft Day 3 Targets

How will Brian Gutekunst put a bow on this historic weekend in Titletown?

Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft is upon us, and man, has it been a ride. GM Brian Gutekunst stuck with the offensive side of the ball as he took the potential tackle of the future in Anthony Belton and then doubled up with Savion Williams at receiver. Wouldn't it be wild if all 8 selections ended up on offense? He's got 5 picks to work with on Day 3, with one in each round, except two in the 7th.

So, what or who do the Packers "need" to grab today? Not a damn thing. This was a high-cut draft, and while every draft has its surprise breakout stars, my expectations are especially low this year. I don't really see defensive tackle in the cards anymore; however, there are some notable defensive backs if Gutekunst is looking to add to that room in a post-Jaire Alexander world. There are some LBs to be had for depth, which is probably my best bet for a selection. The edge class also boasts adequate depth candidates, but not necessarily enough to move the needle from a talent perspective. And while the Packers are solid at QB, some candidates for development could be too hard to pass up.

I looked over my board and found 29 additional prospects to add to the 6 who survived Friday. They SHOULD interest the Packers today....but of course, I'm probably wrong.

Marcus Mbow, OG - Purdue

Mbow is probably the most technically sound IOL in the class. He needs to put on a little more weight, but he's got swing tackle appeal as is. Simply put, Mbow makes even elite defenders look just "good".

Elic Ayomanor, WR - Stanford

In a class full of slot and "Z" wideouts, Ayomanor provides relief with as a proven weapon at the "X" wideout position. Ayomanor can take it the distance every time he touches the ball and is an outstanding blocker downfield in the run game.

Cameron Williams, OT - Texas

Cameron Williams is probably 1 year away from being an All-Pro tackle. But right now he's got excellent length (34.5" arms) and he moves well in space. With an improved anchor after an offseason in an NFL weight room, Williams will be a major problem for any edge rusher in the league.

Jack Sawyer, Edge - Ohio State

Sawyer does an excellent job setting the edge, but his pass-rush skills need real work. And yet, he still gets to the quarterback anyway (9 sacks in 2024). In the right situation, Sawyer is a perennial Pro Bowler down the line at worst.

Dorian Strong, CB - Virginia Tech

Part One of 2025 Joseph's Gems, Strong is the backup today and the starter tomorrow. He's a former WR who's developed the necessary instincts to thrive defensively on the boundary.

Samuel Brown Jr., WR - Miami

A former teammate of new Packer Matthew Golden at Houston, Samuel took his talents to Coral Gables and just couldn't make any noise. This is more projection than anything, but I see him in a similar mold to Golden, he can line up anywhere, but what makes him stick out is his ability to high-point the ball and win contested catches. His route running is advanced, and he's got reliable hands. He might be one of the biggest sleepers at his position.

Dylan Sampson, RB - Tennessee

One of the leaders in missed tackles at the position last year, if you don't get him to the ground early, Sampson is as good as gone with elite speed.

Logan Brown, OT - Kansas

On paper and mostly on film, Logan shows most of what you want from a starting NFL tackle, he just needs to put it together consistently. I can't imagine a better coaching staff than Green Bay to help him turn the corner.

Quandarrius Robinson, Edge - Alabama

This is a bit of a projection, but if Que hadn't been buried on Alabama's depth chart, he'd probably have been a Day 2 pick at minimum. He's shown enough between instincts, hands, setting the edge, and getting after the quarterback to warrant being a priority selection on Saturday. I want a bit more bulk, but whoever gets this guy is probably in for a real treat in 2 years or less.

Ty Robinson, DT - Nebraska

He's probably the most athletic DT in this year's class. He can do it all and do it all reasonably well. It's a bit of a challenge to keep his pad level low at 6'6, but I can live with that.

Cobee Bryant, CB - Kansas

Cobee is very much undersized at 170 lbs, but his length (6'1) and production (11 career INTs) are hard to ignore. He's probably slot only in the pros, but I love his physicality and competitiveness.

Mello Dotson, CB - Kansas

Mello, the other Jayhawks corner has a little more sand in his pants at 190 lbs while boasting good length at 6'1 and also had great production with 11 INTs. His long speed could also land him in the slot, but his hips and feet are smooth.

Jaydon Blue, RB - Texas

He makes one cut and uses his track background to simply outrun you. Blue needs to get stronger to hold up in pass pro while also reducing his fumbling issues. He's an RB2 right now, but if he cleans up his issues, he should be an every-down back in the future.

Miles Frazier, OG - LSU

Miles is my Swing Tackle 5 in this year's class. He's best suited at guard, where he never allowed a sack in 20 starts. If he can put on more muscle in an NFL weight room, he's ready to go.

Billy Bowman Jr., S - Oklahoma

If you close your eyes when he goes in to make a tackle, you'll only notice that Billy is one of the best ballhawks in this year's class. He's scheme-versatile and alignment-versatile (free, box, nickel). What's not to like? You'll forget the other part because your eyes were closed.

Kyle Kennard, Edge - South Carolina

He's probably pass rush only right now, but if he can put on another 10-15 lbs on that 6'5 frame, look out. Not elite athleticism, but great enough that the offense will make sure they account for him.

Tyler Batty, Edge - BYU

He's a little stiff, but he's a power rusher who can send tackles reeling in an instant. With more refinement, he also offers the ability to reduce inside as well.

Elijah Roberts, DT - SMU

Roberts can be a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 DT so for the Packers I'm penciling him in as a DT. He's a power rusher who needs to be coached up so he can stay out on the field on more than just passing downs.

Alijah Huzzie, CB - North Carolina

One of the leaders in coverage grade in 2024, Huzzie may be slot only due to his lack of long speed, but he makes up for it with impressive instincts.

Cam Skattebo, RB - Arizona State

He won't be as explosive in the NFL as he was in college, but he's a guy you'll love to have in the locker room. He's gritty and plays lights out at all times. He NEVER goes down on first contact.

Tory Horton, WR - Colorado State

Tory presents as a QB's best friend with extremely reliable hands and the ability to find a way to come down with contested balls. He's a very good route runner and he blocks downfield. He doesn't play as fast as his 4.4 speed suggests, but he's a valuable addition to your WR room.

Shedeur Sanders, QB - Colorado

His slide is inexplicable at this point, given some of the QBs selected before him. But the further he slides, the more we enter into a realm of possibility that Brian Gutekunst, who said last year he wanted to get back to developing QBs finds reason to select him on Day 3. Sanders is a high IQ prospect who while undersized does well enough with his mechanics to be more than just a competitor at the next level.

Quinn Ewers, QB - Texas

Steve Sarkisian's offense is a very close cousin of Matt LaFleur's. Ewers has shown the ability to execute but needs to sharpen the mental aspects of his game while upgrading his shoddy mechanics. If he can overcome these obstacles, he has otherworldly potential.

Jason Marshall Jr., CB - Florida

He's coming off an injury, but Jason lined up everywhere to include safety down in The Swamp. His overaggressiveness will get him into trouble through either blown plays or penalties, but that's coachable. What you can't coach is his natural ability to break up passes in the air and through the catchpoint.

Jeffrey Bassa, LB - Oregon,

Jeffrey is a converted safety but don't look at is as a negative. The plus is that the guy can cover. He's good good instincts for the position that I believe are still developing. My only concern is if his 6'2 frame is maxed out so he can handle the run at the pros where everybody is just a tad bit bigger.

Jabbar Muhammad, CB - Oregon

Another leader in coverage grades this past year, Jabbar is undersized at just over 5'9 and is most likely slot only in the pros. His man coverage is admirable, but I don't necessarily trust him in press-man. His smaller stature also reappears when it comes to tackling, but trust me he won't allow himself to get pushed around in phase.

Smael Mondon Jr., LB - Georgia

Part Three of 2025 Joseph's Gems, his sideline-to-sideline play speed is tantalizing. He just needs to slow down the game mentally. I believe Jeff Hafley and Co. are up to the task.

Fadil Diggs, Edge - Syracuse

I don't know if he meets the Packers' thresholds but he's definitely borderline. Buried at Texas A&M before transferring to Syracuse, he needs more coaching against the pass and the run to be successful at the next level. Instincts are pretty good to say the least.

CJ West, DT - Indiana

His lack of length and size aren't doing him any favors. But if you can look past that, his hands and motor are more than enough to merit a selection.

Chimere Dike, WR - Florida

Dike's got some good athleticism to his game to go with his decent route running and release package. If he can improve on his ability to secure the ball through contact, he's got some good upside manning the slot.

Dont'e Thornton Jr., WR - Tennessee

As of right now Thornton Jr. is just a vertical weapon at best. He needs of ton of work on all the little things that make a good NFL wideout. If the Packers are comfortable with him being a practice squad stash for a year or two, maybe he gets a call.

Brady Cook, QB - Missouri

He's got some good starting experience, and he took care of the football against some of the best defenses in the country. Unfortunately, Brady just doesn't "see" the game like he should in certain situations, which will result in turnovers in the much faster NFL. If he can carry a clipboard for a couple of years and learn, at worst, he's probably an average backup in the league.

Kain Medrano, LB - UCLA

A hyper-athletic linebacker, Medrano will need more muscle to thrive in the box in the NFL. His missed tackles are very concerning. He might need to stick on special teams first before being relied on in the defense.

Quincy Riley, CB - Louisville

His track background will attract teams, but he needs to improve in man coverage. His tackling for a guy his size leaves much to be desired.

Jordan Phillips, DT - Maryland

His length and size are concerning. But his lack of potential against the pass may push him deep into Day 3.

35 players, with 5 picks to work with. Surely I can do better than the goose egg last night? Day 3 of the NFL Draft kicks off at 11am Central, 12pm Eastern. I'll catch you guys at the conclusion as we break down the action of Day 3.

Better to take a blitz LB like Karene Reid to get a five man threat, or Carson Breuner from CAL as an all-around guy. Stutsman is still on the board.

Teams will regret not moving on him. Just like Barton for KC and Bonitto for the Broncos. This should be his last draft as far as I'm concerned.

Move Up in any case for Bryant, or Sawyer. Get some smart football players who know where the ball is going.
He should have two picks in rd four. I'm going for a long ride on the bike trail. Not much remaining in the cupboard. Drew Kendall for center is another target. He doesn't allow the bull rush.

I like Sawyer……..Why should he have two 4th rounders? If you say he should've traded down yesterday then you’re putting the blame in the wrong place. Gutey stated he couldn’t find any trading partner and it takes two to tango.

Trade 2026 picks, or players. Like in 2020, the meat of this draft is Rds 2-3.

There is a lot of talent left. However we don’t have a lot of ammunition to get it. Let’s hope Gute pivots from sky high hope picks to practical value now. There are still a few hopes for help at DT, though few that are more than run stuffers. CJ West as a potential 3tech, Deone Walker. Ingrams-Dawkins as a potential developmental penetrator who can play big edge.

If we get Edge help though, it’s essentially more big run players or designated pass rushers now. Tyler Barron would please me and Elijah Ponder later as potential speed/agility help.

Still some corners worth a pick, for me led by Zah Frazier. Denzel Burke may be upside value.

There are a lot of players on O but surely we are done at WR. Plenty of OL but we may be done there. It’s a better back end of the draft offensively but we went G/T in the second.

There are a number of TEs including some really good blockers like Hawes and Ouzts. Conyers is probably the best depth as a receiving option who can block pretty well and Brant Kiuthe is a Musgrave type move option if we want depth there.

I think Sanders will be one of the first couple picks off the board today.
His "baggage" might be dragging him down, but he lacks elite arm talent and is a slow processor. His efficiency is generated from getting the ball out on schedule to predetermined reads. He has career backup written all over him.

I think the Packers have hit the stage where they're looking DT/DE/DB. I think they don't take a RB or a WR in their remaining picks. Day 3 is that day when a lot of jockeying around the draft board happens. I think Gute will sacrifice players, deal down in 4, and get his additional picks later.

I've been on the Ty Robinson bandwagon for awhile. He's an animal with attitude and plays an infectious brand of football. I don't think the Packers get a shot at Farmer. Deone Walker and Cam Jackson are hanging out there as tall, long, big guys. I like David Walker later on the edge as a small-school, try-hard spitfire

Cobee Bryant is a zone CB winner at this stage.

I think there's a TE on the radar, yet. Maybe Lachey from TE-university...Josh Simon from SoCar...Helm from Texas. I like Gadsden from Syracuse as an UDFA.

Torricelli Simpkins in round 7 has Packers written all over him.

I think we'll take a CB and a DT. I think that Deone Walker will not last until we pick. A guy that I've liked as a Day 3 NT is Jamaree Caldwell, and I'd be happy if we got him, but it looks like he'll be out of reach. And Cam Jackson is a guy that could be available at #124.

Unless......we use Alexander to move up. Look, we're either going to trade Alexander today, or we're going to end up cutting him. This situation has dragged on long enough and it's going to be resolved soon even if it's a post June 1 designation.

Moving up from #124 to the front of the round, around 30 points, is the equivalent of an early 5th round pick. If we can't get that for Alexander in a trade, then it means nobody else is willing to pay $17M for him either.

I can't believe there isn't one GM who would take a shot at Alexander. But the Packers should do what they can to move up a little to take a DT, because we do need one on the 45 man roster. By my count, that would leave on a spot for a CB on the 45 man roster.

I don't know. Who will want Alexander's K for occasional play or Doubs' concussion fears?

I like Doubs a lot. But those head injuries are very concerning...and he pooped in his mess kit walking out on his team for "not being used properly". He did seem to recover from that stupid decision but I wonder how he feels he will be used this season?

So there's not a single team out there that thinks Alexander can play a full sesson?

Doubs will have to make it through this season without a concussion before there's any point in talking about a future belong that.

In the interest of balance - and Jeff Hafley's mental health - I expect that Day 3 will be dedicated to D. So from my Packers Only Draft Board:

DT - Cam Jackson, CJ West, Cam Horsely, Nazir Stackhouse, Warren Brinson, Jay Toia
Edge - Bradyn Swinson, Kyle Kennard, Fadil Diggs, David Walker, Tyler Baron
CB - Quincy Riley, Zah Frazier, Jason Marshall Jr., Jordan Hancock, Bihlal Kone
LB - Kobe King, Cody Simon, Teddye Buchanan, Shaun Dolac
S - Craig Woodson

How to put a bow on the Lambeau Draft?

Select 2 DTs, 2 DEs and a CB. Just kidding (kind of).

Sawyer DE/OSU and Robinson DT/NE would be nice B1G boy "bows". Add depth with BAPs with the other 3 selections. I would not be surprised if another WR was drafted. That would make Christian Watson's dad excited, wouldn't it?

Amazing just two years ago the Packers WRs were lauded as the best young group in the NFL. Drops, dings, and devastating injuries killed that narrative and replaced it with a reloading plan.

However today goes, it is clear LaFleur has been given a full stable of talent on Offense to be "urgent" with.

DT Joshua Farmer - Not sure why he fell
DT/DE Elijah Roberts - Smaller DT, bigger DE, but production. Might push Brooks and Wooden.
DT Yahya Black - My Iowa hugely Big Ugly Nose
CB Zah Frazier - Big and fast
CB Jordan Hancock - Versitile CB/S with enough speed
LB Cody Simon- Rose Bowl Defensive MVP. National Championship Game Defensive MVP.
WR Donte Thornton - Another bigtime speedster. Underrated. Another WR? Why not. Let's complete the roster turnover.
OT John Williams - Big guard visit
OT Esa Pole - Big guard visit
TE Luke Lachey - My Iowa underrated from TE U

All these picks so far have freak traits. Golden with his speed. Bolton his size. Savion has freak athletic traits. So if Gutey continues down this path, I like JJ Pegues. 6’ 3” 309 DT who also happens to play QB in wildcat packages for short yardage. RAS was low but did not include agility drills which is his strength. In any case, hoping we get a run stuffer today to replace Slaton’s snaps.

Sawyer, if he makes it to us.

And who is going top be the lucky DT now that most of the top ones are gone? Better find an answer if you want the run defense to remain solid...It was enjoyable not to have to complain about this for a season, so let's keep it that way.
