Packers Game 17 Recap I Bears 24 Packers 22
Packers finish 1-5 in the NFC North.

The Packers 11-game winning streak against the Bears came to an end Sunday at Lambeau Field losing 24-22 in the final week of the regular season. QB Jordan Love was injured in the second quarter and did not return finishing 7/12 for 69 YDS. LB Edgerrin Cooper once again lead the team in tackles with 7. In case you missed it in what was the weirdest game of the year, here is the recap:
Packers won the toss choosing to receive the ball in the frigid 17 degree temperature. QB Love completed his first pass to WR Dontayvion Wicks for the 6-yard gain. After a RB Jacobs 10-yard run, the Pack offense was stopped in its tracks with an incompletion intended for TE Tucker Kraft on third-and-7. P Daniel Whelan dropped the high snap but kept his composure punting 35 yards to the CHI 30. QB Caleb Williams fumbled the snap on the first play resulting in a sack by pro bowler DE Rashan Gary. S Javon Bullard followed with a tackle for loss beautifully reading the screen play forcing a Bears three and out punt.
QB Love completed an 8-yard screen pass to TE Kraft setting up a first down 2-yard run by RB Emmanuel Wilson. However, two straight QB Love incompletions lead to a P Whelan punt that resulted in a CHI touchdown by CB Josh Blackwell who was on the opposite side of the field as the GB special teams were tricked by the decoy. K Carlos Santos made the extra point CHI 7 GB 0 with 6:34 left in the first quarter.
QB Love picked up the first down with a 15-yard completion to WR Wicks. GB moved deep into CHI territory with a 19-yard completion to TE Luke Musgrave that was ruled an incompletion challenged by HC Matt Lafleur reversing the call (confused why it had to be challenged). On third-and-9 at the CHI 22, TE Kraft picked up only 3-yard on a screen resulting in a 37-yard K Brandon McManus field goal CHI 7 GB 3 with 2:24 left in the first quarter.
GB defense continued to be aggressive up front with a tackle by DT TJ Slaton for a 4-yard loss and pressure by DE Lukas Van Ness as QB Williams threw the ball away. The Packers forced another Bears punt, but the first play for GB was a fumble on a WR Jayden Reed run that was recovered by S Jonathan Owens running down to the GB 21. The last play of the first quarter was a 2-yard run by RB D'Andre Swift.
Second Quarter: Bears 7 Packers 3
CHI scored a touchdown on a 4-yard run by RB Swift CHI 14 GB 3 with 14:02 left in the second quarter. Needing to put some points in the board, QB Love threw a 16-yard completion to WR Wicks, but the bad luck for GB continued as WR Christian Watson was injured reaggrivating his knee on a non-contact injury and did not return. RB Jacobs got the ball rolling for GB with a 12-yard run to the CHI 47. An 8-yard completion to RB Jacobs resulted in QB Love getting injured on the play with a hand/elbow injury bringing in backup QB Malik Willis. On second-and-15, QB Willis completed a first down pass to TE Kraft for a 20-yard gain. RB Jacobs ran the ball 8-yards into the end zone for his eighth straight game with a rushing touchdown breaking Paul Hornung’s record. K McManus made the extra point CHI 14 GB 10 with 11:12 left in the second quarter.
CHI was able to move the chains with a 14-yard run by RB Swift to the CHI 45. On third-and-6, CB Keisean Nixon made a perfect read on a screen pass tackling WR DJ Moore for a 2-yard loss resulting in a CHI punt. Starting at their own 37, GB went run heavy with three straight running plays to RB Wilson. On third-and-8, QB Willis threw a lob downfield that was scooped up by WR Reed for the 31-yard catch to the CHI 36. RB Chris Brooks got in the mix with a 13-yard run. The final play before the two minute warning was a 5-yard catch by WR Wicks resulting in a 30-yard successful field goal attempt by K McManus bringing the score to CHI 14 GB 13 with 1:57 left in the second quarter. After a couple quick completions by QB Williams to WR Keenan Allen including a 8-yard first down completion. The Packers D was able to stall the Bears forcing a third down incompletion throw away resulting in a punt. The final play of the first half was an RB Brooks 4-yard run.
Third Quarter: Bears 14 Packers 13
Chicago received the ball to start the second half. On third-and-4, QB Williams completed a 13-pass to WR Allen to the CHI 49. The Bears were able to convert on a 4th-and-5, but the following play on a wide receiver reverse WR Allen threw an interception to S Xavier McKinney for his 8th of the season (hold on to the damn ball).
Starting at the GB 44, the Packers went ground heavy with 4 straight runs to RB Wilson including an 8-yard first down gain to the CHI 32. On the next play, QB Willis was sacked by S Kevin Byard who went untouched resulting in a fumble recovered by CHI at their own 46. LB Cooper continued to be a menace on the field disrupting a screen play to WR Moore and tackling RB Jaylon Johnson on third down resulting in a CHI punt to the GB 16-yard line. The Pack continued to utilize the run game with RB Brooks gaining 23-yards before getting tackled at the CHI 44. The final play of the third quarter was a 3-yard run by Brooks setting up fourth-and-3.
Fourth Quarter: Bears 14 Packers 13
The Pack was stopped on fourth down for no gain on a handoff to WR Reed for the turnover on downs. The Bears were able to convert on third-and-6 and then third-and-5 by QB Williams making timely accurate throws to WR Moore. CHI scored a touchdown on a short pass by QB Williams to WR Moore that turned to a 32-yard run into the end zone. K Santos made the extra point CHI 21 GB 13 with 10:02 left in the fourth quarter.
After QB Willis completed a 17-yard pass to WR Reed, the GB offense hit another stagnant wall as QB Willis held on to the ball too long resulting in a 6-yard sack. On third-and-10, TE Kraft failed to get the first down on a 7-yard catch resulting in a P Whelan touchback punt. Needing a stop on third-and-10, the GB defense clamped CHI as DT Karl Brooks tackled RB Johnson for a 4-yard loss. After the CHI punt to the GB 49, the Pack moved backwards after a OT Walker holding penalty and sack setting up third-and-21. A miracle of a catch was made by WR Malik Heath for a 41-yard gain. On the next play, RB Emmanuel Wilson ran the ball 21-yard a for the touchdown. The two point conversion failed as the ball slipped out of QB Willis hand CHI 21 GB 19 with 4:28 left in the fourth quarter.
CHI was able to milk the clock as RB Swift picked up a 6-yard gain for the first down running the clock to the two minute warning. WR Moore fumbled on a quick pass knocked out by CB Carrington Valentine recovered by S Bullard at the CHI 43. After questionable clock management and setting up fourth-and-4, GB made the decision to attempt a 55-yard field goal which was nailed by K McManus GB 22 CHI 21 with 54 seconds left in the game. CHI started the drive at their own 20, but got 15-yards on the first play with a horse-collar tackle on LB Kingsley Enagbare. CHI was able to get in field goal range with QB Williams making clutch throws including an 18-yard pass to WR Moore setting up the game winning 51-yard field goal attempt by K Santons. Final Score Bears 24 Packers 22.
Packers will play at the Eagles next weekend in the wild card round of the playoffs while the Bears head to Cancun.

This wasn't a surprise.
Love and Watson out.
You pull your best rb.
And you give the back-ups a chance.
Go ahead and blame MLF. I DON"T!
Because I know if you fire MLF.
Gute gets another 3 years as GM.
3 more years of rebuilding.
Etc. Etc. Etc.

I do question this NEED to take the ball first and then come out with that play calling. That's 100% Matt LaFleur. Love looked "Not Ready For Prime Time" again. Why is every pass, every competition, hell every drop back look as bad finger nails on a chalkboard sounds?
Just saying...
Oh, and what the hell was that at the end of the game AFTER a timeout? That was what Hafley and MLF talked about and decided what was best?
Good God, the Eagles are going to kill us...

Don't question it.
MLF can't play.
Love is the QB Regardless.
They knew they had a problem last week.
Injuries, can change everything.
And getting are starters back is a must.

Packers are 3 1/2 point underdogs.
MLF won't get blown out.

Jaire and Watson will not be available for the rematch. Reed is either injured, or gun-shy for some reason. This guy had to dispatch the Bears and you got a vanilla game plan. I doubt Hafley called for the prevent D. Heath should be in the rotation with Doubs and Reed next weekend and open up the max sets with the TEs. Powerball may be the Formula. Can they get to Hurts? They still lack a Fullback.

Don't need a fullback. Need a fast wr
to stretch the field.

Is MVS available, Jeff Janis?
I thought Bo Melton was fast enough to take the top off a defense.

1-5 in their division and a playoff spot; a rare feat.
MLF needs a head coach training camp getaway this offseason. IE-Playcalls and time management.
It looks like Eagles 34 GB 13

WOW
We've all heard of the saying... "you want your team to peak at the right time"
We are in no danger of hearing that talked about with the Packers this season, whatsoever.
Aside from the punt return for a TD. The Bears were who we thought they were.
The Bears did almost all they could to lose this game.
I'm sure some fans will bring up the subject of a 'trap game', but i don't buy it, never have.
I understand that Caleb Williams is a rookie, i get it.
But if any QB needs to sit for a year or two, it's him.
Yes, Caleb flashes every so often with a nice pass.
But from what i see, he is the master of dink and dunk and throwing checkdowns.
I saw a 3rd and 10, where Caleb threw to a receiver 4 yards behind the LOS, where he got tackled instantly. 4th and 14?...lol. (Think Brett Hundley)
He doesn't have the knowledge, understanding, or the awareness yet, to be a factor in the NFL.
Not only that, he stares down, and he's the King of throwing the ball out of bounds on broken plays, often.
Granted, he has a bad O line, but i'd take Malik Willis over him, and twice on Sunday.
******
I hesitate to critique the Packers (right now), as i'm trying to understand what happened to this better than average pass offense recently. Especially considering they have one of the best backs in the league and a decent group of receivers, along with Tucker. (Not sure what to make of Musgrave yet)
Last week Love had like 50 yards passing at 1/2 time. This week wasn't much better.
I'm also trying to wrap my head around the fact that the Packers couldn't beat a dysmall, dysfunctional 4 and 12 team at Lambeau.
That was painful to watch.

The season in microcosm. The Packers coming out and getting tactically stymied and finally beaten by a bad team. Errors, poor play calling, ineffective scripted play.
This would be bad enough if it was a one off, but it’s not. Not this season or over the entire LaFleur tenure. He had been whipped tactically by each of the 3 divisional teams (arguably motivationally too).
Our rivals have figured him out while he had not figured out how to coach a disciplined team after 17 games. There is no hiding place. He doesn’t lift our rosters they drag him, and have throughout his tenure. That’s been shown now over and over. Not motivational, not innovative, not effective: not good.
We haven’t beaten a good team this year. We haven’t played a complete game against an average one. Only a freakishly unlikely ST play saved us from being 0:6 in our division that includes a Bears team in disarray.
Sorry, LaFleur is not a leader, not a play calling savant. He’s not a Head Coach. Sure, miracles can happen, but with him in charge we’ve already had one in getting this far. The team will be what it has been this year until he and his offense is gone.
This game just illustrated neatly how out of his depth he is and has been and how thoroughly others have figured that out around the league. Go let him ride some other team’s coat tails. Hopefully one we play twice a year. Yes, he’s that bad regardless of record.

No- your wrong-
You can't blame MLF for injuries.
Gute drafted the back 7 in 2024.
The attacks in every loss are over the middle.
Even if we get killed by the eagles
The problem is injuries and lack of depth.
Who are the game changers?
Not one of Gute's 1st rd picks!
And lets criticize Gute on not spending money
for a kicker.

I don’t think we got a kicker without a lot of help from good fortune, but surely you aren’t criticizing McManus’ acquisition?
Who are you criticizing? The safeties? Hafley?

I read someplace that last year's finish gave us unrealistic expectations for this year. I guess that's probably the case with me.
This year isn't over, but the fat lady is warming up. Green Bay seems to have all the pieces but not the drive or chemistry to make teams pay.
They might surprise me....but I doubt it.

Simply amazing....(actually LESS than 300 yards once AGAIN, but nitpicking )... a 5-12 record. Soooo.....after 2 years Rodgers shows up for NY in a meaningless game. I'm sure the Jets are already planning to continue the incredible Rodgers experience. Maybe when he is 42, they can go 6-11.

The great HOF MVP Jordan Love did something that Rodgers couldn’t do, lost to the Bears. I guess we need to get used to the Packers fighting for the bottom of the division….thanks Love and Gute.

It’s not like the man of your dreams had a perfect record against the Bears. He lost in his first year starting, the first Bear game in the Super Bowl year, one of the 2013 games and a few other times as well.
