Packers Question of the Day: Martellus Bennett's Retirement
In the wake of Green Bay Packers tight end Martellus Bennett announcing his potential retirement at the culmination of the 2017 season, there will be some unanswered questions for the team to address over the offseason that pertain to the tight end position.
While the news came as somewhat of a shock, what were your initial and current thoughts on Bennett's possible retirement?

I wanted to keep Cook but that did not happen, I think both Cook and the Pack would have done better.

I tend to disagree: I don't think any of the 3 losses the Packers sustained were a result of the TE position.
More Lance Kendricks, please.

More power to the man. Pro football is a brutal game. If he wants to leave on his own terms and intact, who are we to say. Ten years in this league for any player is temping fate, walking away clean is a victory under any conditions.

The concern is will Bennett continue to go through the motions as he has apparently been doing so far this season? Will he play like he wants to avoid being injured? Good for him to choose retirement, he's earned it and he's healthy. Time for the Packers to start throwing to Kendricks and R. Rodgers. Thanks, Since '61

My hope is that he'll decide that he wants to go out on a high note and will play these last games with pride and gusto. Who knows what we'll see...

As another poster said on a different site, "too bad that Bennett's hands retired a year before his announcement"....It's very funny but so true on another level.

Seems like Bennett has dropped 80% of everything thrown to him. I was cautiously excited at the beginning of the season but its time for him to take a back seat and yes, retire at the end of the year. He's had a pretty good career.
I think Lance Kendricks has looked pretty decent, and I don't know why he isn't used more often.

I kept hearing about all the creative 2-TE sets that MM would use when they got Bennett and Kendricks. I kept thinking, "MM doesn't do that, he trots out his 3 WR/1 TE set most of the time and everybody flies 30 yds downfield while AR runs around." I thought they just should have kept Cook, he's more suited to MM's style of offense.
I always liked Bennett as an entertaining personality but as a player he doesn't fit in this system and they won't really miss him.

WE were the ones fantasizing about 2 TE sets...does anyone remember MM ever really selling that?

What a total disaster of a free agent signing.
Another indication of WHY it's a total crap shoot to venture into free agency after high dollar FA's.

They better get a prorated portion of that signing bonus back.

The decimation of the offensive line and the Aaron Rodgers injury has more to do with his decision to retire at this point.
Time will tell if he is speaking from his head or his heart.
Following Texas athletics by birth and Packers owner by choice, adversity either makes or breaks your character .

It speaks volumes that he would make this comment when the team needs to pull together during a difficult time. When the going gets tough, he bails out. Not the type of teammate that the other 52 players and coaches need. A major disappointment on and off the field.

Put him on the bench. I don't think he really wants to be here. He is a kneeler that has trouble catching the ball. Very disappointed in him so far.

we have Aaron Jones. He's got Bubba Frank's old number.

IMO it looks like Aaron Rodgers quit on the last series of
Downs. He threw one way over the head of the receiver and after the running play he threw it in the dirt. Third downs seem that he is going to hold the ball and get sacked. The refs see phantom holding calls on just about every kick off and punt return. McCarthy fails to challenge an pass play that should have been overturned. That being said it seems that the Packers are cursed or the games is being scripted so the Pack loses.
