Zach Tom Is An All-Pro Caliber Tackle

Whether in the running game or in pass protection, Zach Tom has been outstanding throughout his career.

Zach Tom has arguably been Green Bay's best offensive lineman for a while now. Since joining the Packers, he has allowed a sack once every 312 pass-blocking snaps and a quarterback hit once every 156 snaps.

Last year, Tom earned a strong 81.2 run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus. In 2024, he's improved even further, with his grade rising to 86.5. No other Packers lineman is above 60.0. PFF also credits Tom as the best run-blocker in football on zone-run schemes.

He is one of just four offensive tackles with at least an 80.0 grade in both pass-blocking and run-blocking. He's also a top-10 tackle in pass-blocking grade on true pass sets among those with at least 100 snaps. Additionally, he's tied for the fourth-fewest pressures allowed among tackles with at least 150 pass-blocking snaps.

Through seven games, Zach Tom has recorded four games with no pressures, hurries, quarterback hits, or sacks, achieving perfect pass-blocking efficiency. He’s also been one of the top five highest-graded Packers in five of those seven games.

Tom played at a high level in his second year as well. Among 19 offensive tackles with at least 650 pass-blocking snaps, he allowed the second-fewest sacks and quarterback hits. He also allowed the fifth-fewest pressures, with a pass-blocking efficiency of 97.2, the fifth-best rate among his peers. Furthermore, he allowed 9 QB pressures over 125 pass-blocking snaps against T.J. Watt, Aidan Hutchinson, and Cameron Jordan.

We can go over advanced stats to further emphasize Zach Tom's importance to the offense. In last year's divisional round loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Jordan Love started 15 of 22 for 168 yards, two touchdowns, and a 120.3 rating during the first six possessions. However, after Tom went down with an injury, Love's performance plummeted to 6 of 12 for just 30 yards, two interceptions, and a 16.7 rating.

Aside from Jordan Love, Zach Tom is the most important player on the Packers' offense. While 2025 will be the last year of his rookie deal, Green Bay will already have the opportunity to extend him, and they should do it as soon as possible. Tom is a key cornerstone of the offense and should be the franchise right tackle for many years to come.

Tom also helped break up the chippy fest among Diggs, Nixon and Alexander-one of the coaches thanked him.

Tom is great, but you need to revise your stats a little. He gave up a sack to Danielle Hunter at the 9:36 mark of the fourth quarter on Sunday.
