Antonio Gates Contract Details

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune has the details of San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates' five-year, $36.175 million contract extension.

Gates was due to earn $3.625 million in base salary this season, which when added to the "new money", makes the total value of Gates' contract worth $39.8 million over the next six seasons.

Signing Bonus: $4.575 million (2010)
Option Bonus: $3.47 million (2010?)
Roster Bonus: $6.4 million (2012)

Base Salaries

2010: $755,000 (guaranteed)
2011: $5.2 million (guaranteed)
2012: $4 million (guaranteed for injury)
2013: $4.5 million ($2.4 million guaranteed for injury)
2014: $5 million
2015: $5.9 million

The all-important three-year haul is $24.4 million, $20.4 million (83.9%) of which is guaranteed.
