Bengals DE Jonathan Fanene Placed on IR

The Cincinnati Bengals have placed defensive end Jonathan Fanene on injured reserve, Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Free agent defensive end Victor Adenyanju has been signed to replace Fanene on the 53-man roster.

After establishing career-highs in games started (10) and quarterback sacks (6), Fanene has been limited to games in a reserve role, totaling one tackle in the 2010 regular season opener. Fanene missed the next four games before returning against the Atlanta Falcons, but has missed the last three weeks and had already been ruled out for Sunday's game with a hamstring injury.

Fanene is in the final year of his current contract, and will be a free agent in the off-season.

A fourth-round pick (113th overall) out of Indiana by the St. Louis Rams in 2006, Adeyanju (6-4, 284) started 26 of his 53 games in the NFL, totaling 117 tackles and 3 quarterback sacks. A restricted free agent this off-season for the second time in his career, Adeyanju was tendered at the "Original Round" level and released as part of the Rams' final roster cuts before the start of the regular season.
