Chargers Release DB C.J. Spillman

The San Diego Chargers have released defensive back C.J. Spillman, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

A second-year undrafted free agent from Marshall, the 6-0, 190-pound Spillman totaled 13 tackles in five games, including one start, as a rookie and has a team-high six special teams tackles through five games in 2010.

Spillman is believed to be a repeat culprit in the many special teams breakdowns the Chargers have had this season, including a 46-yard punt return by Oakland Raiders wide receiver Nick Miller on Sunday.

If Spillman clears waivers, the Chargers are likely to seek to bring him back on the practice squad.
