Chargers Sign LB Mike Nixon

The San Diego Chargers have signed undrafted Arizona State linebacker Mike Nixon, Jeff Metcalfe of The Arizona Republic reports.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Nixon (6-2, 228) started 31 of his 50 games with the Sun Devils, totaling 169 tackles, including 25 for a loss, 5.5 quarterback sacks and 8 interceptions. Nixon twice earned All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention honors (2008, 2009), and shared the team's 2008 Defensive MVP Award with safety Troy Nolan, who now plays for the Houston Texans.

Nixon, who wasn't invited to the 2010 Scouting Combine, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.76 seconds at ASU's pro day in March.

The 26-year old Nixon spent four years as a catcher in the Los Angeles Dodgers' minor league system before enrolling at Arizona State in 2006.
