Chargers to Sign K Kris Brown

With kicker Nate Kaeding (groin) expected to miss Sunday's game against the New England Patriots, the San Diego Chargers have signed veteran kicker Kris Brown, reports Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network.

Brown was one of three kickers to tryout for the Chargers, beating out Shayne Graham and Shaun Suisham for the short-term role.

The Houston Texans' all-time leading scorer with 767 points, Brown has connected on 252-of-326 field goal attempts (77.3%) during his 11-year career. Brown spent three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before joining the Texans in their inaugural season.

Signed to a four-year, $10.25 million extension in 2009, Brown struggled last season, converting on just 21-of-32 field goal attempts, with five of his misses coming from inside 39 yards. The Texans signed Neil Rackers to push Brown for the kicking job during the pre-season.

Head coach Gary Kubiak opted to go with Rackers, who has converted 9-of-11 attempts for the Texans this season.

Brown had a tryout with the New Orleans Saints last month, but the team signed 46-year old John Carney instead.
