Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson has agreed to a five-year contract extension, Adam Caplan of FOXSports.com.

Caplan adds that Johnson's extension is worth over $34 million with $15 million in guarantees.

Johnson (6-3, 242) has 451 tackles, 13 quarterback sacks, and 7 interceptions during an 82-game career that has featured several ups and downs. Johnson lost his starting job in 2009, leading to career-lows in tackles (37), but did post a career-high three interceptions, returning two for touchdowns.

A restricted free agent this off-season, Johnson received an "Original Round" tender, which carried a $2.475 million base salary. Johnson claimed a starting job on the inside, leading the Chiefs with 65 tackles at the midway point of the season.

Johnson also has a 15-yard interception return for a touchdown this season, and his 8 passes defensed and two forced fumbles are tied for the team lead in those categories.
