Multiple news outlets are reporting that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel underwent an appendectomy on Wednesday.

The Chiefs have confirmed the report, adding that the procedure was successful and the club expects Cassel to return to work this week.

Cassel has been under center for all of the Chiefs' offensive snaps this season, but his availability for Sunday is a question mark. Brodie Croyle has been the number two quarterback throughout this season, and the Chiefs have promoted quarterback Tyler Palko from the practice squad.
