Chiefs Sign 3rd Round G Jon Asamoah
By admin
The Kansas City Chiefs announced that they have signed third-round guard Jon Asamoah.
Reports last week that Asamoah had signed were premature.
A three-year starter at the University of Illinois, the 6-4, 305-pound Asamoah spent his entire 37-guard, where he was second-team All-Big Ten and Outland Trophy finalist as a senior.
Asamoah is behind veterans Brian Waters and Ryan Lilja on the Chiefs’ depth chart, but the team did not use one of their two third-round picks on him to sit for long. If Asamoah doesn’t move into the starting lineup late in the 2010 season, he will definitely be expected to push for a starting job in 2011.
Asamoah would be the fourth of the Chiefs' seven picks in the 2010 NFL to sign or agree to terms on a contract. First-round safety Eric Berry remains unsigned, as do second-round picks Dexter McCluster and Javier Arenas.
The Chiefs report to training camp today.
