Colts DT Fili Moala Eager to Contribute in Year Two

Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Fili Moala, the team's second-round pick in 2009, appeared in just 10 games as a rookie, totaling 7 tackles and spending the team's post-season run on the gameday inactive list.

After starting 33 games at the University of Southern California, that inactivity didn't sit well with Moala, Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star reports.

"I’ve never sat on the bench in my life," Moala said. "I don’t like being a spectator. I can’t speak for anyone else, but that does not sit well with me.

"I’ve never been that kind of guy. I’ve always felt like I had to carry my weight. I felt like a bum sitting on the sideline. It was not playing as well and kind of doubting yourself in terms of looking yourself in the mirror and thinking, 'Man, this is not me.'"

Chappell adds that Moala has shown signs of improvement this off-season, and has been working alongside Daniel Muir with the first-team defensive line during the Colts' "Organized Team Activity" sessions while Antonio Johnson recovers from an undisclosed injury.

"I expect a lot," Moala said. "I expect to play a lot. I expect to make a lot of plays. I expect to go back to being myself and just being productive and feeling comfortable out there, feeling like and looking like my old self."
