With all of their 2010 draft picks under contract, the Dallas Cowboys can now address their new number one off-season priority: Signing Miles Austin to a contract extension.
The fifth-year player out of Monmouth is set to earn $3.168 million dollars in base salary playing under the "First- and Third-Round" restricted free agent tender in 2010. Austin is coming off a breakout season, where the 6-3, 216-pounder caught 81 passes for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns, earning a trip to the Pro Bowl.
Austin had 18 receptions for 354 yards and three touchdowns during his first three seasons in the NFL.
"When we make sure we've got our hands around everything, he's (Austin) first and foremost," Cowboys Executive Vice-President Stephen Jones said on Friday night.
"Everything we do right now we have to be very calculated in figuring out how it affects us," Jones added after pointing to labor uncertainty as the primary reason for the delay in talks on a long-term extension.
