Former Chargers CB Anthony Arline Takes Own Life

Anthony Arline, who spent a brief time with the San Diego Chargers in 2007, took his own life in San Antonio last weekend.

Arline, 26, enlisted in the Air Force two years ago, and was stationed at Lackland AFB. His mother says that Arline was involved in an argument with his girlfriend on Friday night, and that police investigators tell her that Arline died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound early Saturday morning.

A friend discovered his body on Monday night.

A two-time honorable mention All-Big 12 cornerback at Baylor, the 6-2, 199-pound Arline went undrafted in 2007 and was signed by the San Diego Chargers. Former Chargers secondary coach and Baylor defensive coordinator Bill Bradley recounted the chain of events that led to Arline voluntarily ending his NFL career.

"His girlfriend was in a bad car accident and he had to leave camp," Bradley said, according to David Flores of KENS-5 in San Antonio. "We told him to take as much time as he needed, but then he called us later and said he was retiring because his heart wasn’t in football anymore."

My deepest condolences to Arline's family and friends.
