Jaguars G Justin Smiley Restructures Contract

Before acquiring guard Justin Smiley from the Miami Dolphins, the Jacksonville Jaguars wanted to restructure his contract, which has three years and $13 million dollars remaining on it, including $2.9 million dollars in base salary in 2010.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that Smiley has restructured his deal, slicing $5.5 million dollars off the remaining three years.

According to NFLPA records, Smiley has base salaries of $1.25 million dollars this season, and $2 million dollars in both 2011 and 2012. Florio adds that Smiley's base salary this season is guaranteed, and that Smiley will receive a $750,000 roster bonus and $500,000 workout bonus, meaning Smiley's 2010 compensation will be reduced by $300,000. (Smiley had a $100K workout bonus in his contract)

Smiley will also receive $500,000 workout bonuses in both 2011 and 2012.
