Jacksonville Jaguars strength-and-conditioning coach Luke Richesson tells the team's official website that the offensive line will be stronger and slimmer in 2010.
"When we step off the bus, the linebackers and the defensive backs can’t be the toughest, meanest guys," Richesson said. "The guys in the trenches have to be the tone-setters. As they play, so will the team."
2009 first-round pick Eugene Monroe has shed 29 pounds and reduced his body fat this off-season, while 2009 second-round pick Eben Britton dropped body fat, as well.
"Eben Britton was outstanding," said Richesson. "He stepped up in a leadership role. He’s 310 pounds and rocked up; he has an edge. He dropped body fat; there’s a measurable shift in muscle."
Veterans Brad Meester and Vince Manuwai have also cut weight, with Richesson reporting that Manuwai is in the 320-pound range for the first time in his career. In recent seasons, Manuwai's weight was generously listed at 336 pounds.
Meanwhile, Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown got an excellent discount on some Shake Weights.
