Jaguars Sign DT Nate Collins Off Giants' Practice Squad

The Jacksonville Jaguars have apparently signed rookie defensive tackle Nate Collins off the New York Giants' practice squad.

"Until we meet again #NY. Wheels up next stop FLA!", Collins tweeted this morning. Earlier communiques via Twitter included a re-tweet of a welcome message from Courtney Greene, a starting safety for the Jaguars.

Collins (6-2, 290) signed with the Giants in April as an undrafted free agent from the University of Virginia. Collins posted three tackles during the pre-season, and was waived and re-signed to the practice squad at the start of the regular season.

The Jaguars had put in a claim for Collins in September, but were awarded the rights to Landon Cohen instead. For being signed off a practice squad, by rule, Collins is guaranteed three game-checks ($18,824 each) from the Jaguars, who cut Cohen earlier this week and placed defensive end Aaron Kampman on injured reserve with a torn ACL.

During his college career, Collins posted 161 tackles, including 23.5 for a loss and 9 quarterback sacks. Collins did not become a full-time starter until last season, where he picked up first-team All-ACC honors.
