Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini has named veteran quarterback Jake Delhomme the starter for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Delhomme spent the previous seven seasons with the Panthers, leading the team to three playoff appearances, including a loss in Super Bowl XXXIX. Delhomme is the all-time leader in every passing category for the Panthers, but struggled with turnovers and health in recent seasons and was released in the off-season.

Signed to two-year deal by the Browns, Delhomme opened the regular season as the starting quarterback. An ankle injury put him on the shelf, with Seneca Wallace stepping in and playing well before he was sidelined by an ankle injury of his own.

2010 third-round quarterback Colt McCoy has been starting, and playing well, for the Browns, but the rookie from Texas injured his ankle last Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. McCoy hasn't practiced this week, opening the door for Delhomme to face his former team, who he has no hard feelings towards.

"When I left New Orleans to go play for Carolina I couldn’t wait for that first game to play against New Orleans," Delhomme said according to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. "The reason was I wasn’t given a chance to play there. This is totally different.

"We had a good run down there (in Carolina). But sometimes in relationships, there’s breakups. Ours needed to happen. It’s not like (playing) New Orleans the first time. That was more revenge."
