Jets Were Willing to Sign Marshall to an Offer Sheet

According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, during the NFL owners meetings in late March, the New York Jets were willing to sign then-Denver Broncos restricted free agent wide receiver Brandon Marshall to an offer sheet, which, had Denver matched, would've cost the Jets the 29th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

The Jets were unable to meet Marshall's contract demands, however, and their interest in the 6-4, 230-pound cooled.

Klis adds that the Seattle Seahawks had "far more discussions" with Marshall's agent, but that their attempts to acquire Marshall was hindered by their swapping of second-round picks with the San Diego Chargers, as well as by their not offering as much guaranteed money as the Miami Dolphins were willing to pay.

Marshall also felt more comfortable returning to Florida, where he's lived since high school.

I'm still not convinced that the Seahawks' swapping of second-round picks "doomed" the trade as much as the Dolphins' willingness to include another second-round pick greased the wheel for a deal to get done. Denver certainly would've preferred to ship Marshall out of the conference, and had the Seahawks been willing to include their second-round pick in 2011, which would certainly be higher than Miami's, that probably would've gotten the deal done.

The Seahawks weren't willing to do that or meet Marshall and McGuire's contract demands, so Marshall is now a Dolphin.
