Lions Sign Canadian DE Chima Ihekwoaba

The Detroit Lions have signed rookie free agent defensive end Chima Ihekwoaba, Tom Kowalski of MLive.com reports.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Kowalski reports that it's a one-year contract.

Ihekwoaba participated in the Lions' rookie mini-camp this weekend on a tryout basis. The Burlington, Ontario native played his college ball at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The 6-4, 260-pounder missed most of last season with a shoulder injury, but ran a 4.78-second time in the 40-yard dash, did 23 reps on the bench press (225-pounds), and displayed a 41" vertical jump at the CFL's "evaluation camp" in March.

The Montreal Alouettes selected Ihekwoaba in the second round (14th pick overall) in the CFL Draft on Sunday.
