Patriots Activate G Logan Mankins

The New England Patriots will activate guard Logan Mankins for tomorrow's game against the Cleveland Browns, reports Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe.

Third-year cornerback Terrence Wheatley, a second-round pick in 2008, has been released to add Mankins to the 53-man roster.

Mankins was not eligible for unrestricted free agency this off-season, and New England offered the former first-round pick out of Fresno State a "First- and Third-Round" tender worth $3.268 million in base salary this season. Seeking a long-term extension, Mankins opted to not sign the tender, which was reduced to $1.54 million, 110% of Mankins' 2009 salary, in mid-June.

Mankins reported to the team and signed his one-year restricted free agent tender on Tuesday. New England had a two-week roster exemption to add the two-time Pro Bowler to the 53-man roster, which the Patriots have apparently declined to use.

Since being chosen with the 62nd overall pick out of Colorado, Wheatley has been active for 11 games, totaling 4 tackles. Wheatley had not been active for a game this season.
