Patriots Agree to Terms With 5th Round P Zoltan Mesko

Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports the New England Patriots have agreed to terms with fifth-round punter Zoltan Mesko.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

A native of Romania, the left-footed Mesko handled the punting duties at the University of Michigan for the last four seasons. Mesko punted 243 times during his career, posting a career average of 42.5 yards, which ranks second in Wolverines' history. 76 of Mesko's punts were downed inside the opponents' 20-yard line, and Mesko's career-long went 68 yards.

A team captain as a senior, Mesko was a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection, and a three-time Ray Guy Award candidate. (Finalist in 2009)

According to the special teams rankings compiled by Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News, the Patriots had the worst net punting average in the NFL last season. With the release last week of David King, Mesko is currently the only punter on the Patriots' roster, and the job is his to lose during training camp.
