Seahawks Not Interested in Matt Leinart

The Arizona Cardinals released quarterback Matt Leinart on Saturday, and while the former first-round pick is expected to land on an NFL roster this fall, Clark Judge of CBSSports.com reports that it won't be in Seattle.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was Leinart's coach at USC. Despite the Seahawks passing on Taylor Mays in the draft, trading for and quickly releasing LenDale White, the belief around the league is that USC scholarships are still valid at the Seahawks' headquarters in suburban Seattle.

Matt Hasselbeck remains the starting quarterback for the Seahawks, with Charlie Whitehurst his top back-up. The Seahawks swapped second-round picks and a 2011 third-round pick to acquire Whitehurst from the San Diego Chargers in March. Whitehurst struggled during the pre-season, but has the physical tools the Seahawks look for in a quarterback, and throws a good deep ball.

Veteran quarterback Patrick Ramsey, released by the New Orleans Saints on Friday, played for the Denver Broncos in 2007-08 when Seahawks offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates was the quarterbacks coach and could be an option as the Seahawks' third quarterback once the season starts.

As for Leinart, the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars may have interest.
