Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck to Miss Sunday's Game

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll announced that quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (concussion) will not play during Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

Charlie Whitehurst will make his first NFL start, and rookie Zac Robinson will be signed off the practice squad to back-up Whitehurst.

A third-round pick (81st overall) out of Clemson by the San Diego Chargers in 2006, Whitehurst was a restricted free agent this off-season when the Seahawks acquired him in exchange for a swap of 2010 second-round picks and a third-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. The Seahawks then signed Whitehurst to a two-year deal worth as much as $10 million.

In four seasons in San Diego, Whitehurst did not attempt an NFL pass.

Whitehurst completed 46-of-90 pass attempts for 635 yards with 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions during the 2010 pre-season.

Hasselbeck was sacked eight times by the Oakland Raiders during Sunday's 33-3 loss, with Whitehurst replacing Hasselbeck for the final offensive series, which consisted of three hand-offs to Leon Washington to run out the clock.
