Seahawks Trade DE Lawrence Jackson to the Lions

The Seattle-to-Detroit NFL pipeline was re-opened on Wednesday, with the Seattle Seahawks trading defensive end Lawrence Jackson to the Detroit Lions in exchange for an undisclosed 2011 NFL Draft choice.
A first-round pick (28th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft, Jackson started 24 of his 32 games with the Seahawks, totaling 61 tackles and 6.5 quarterback sacks.
The 6-4, 271-pound Jackson played for Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll at USC, but did not appear to have a role in Seattle's new defensive line. After playing strong-side defensive end during the OTAs and mini-camp, Jackson was slowed by a hamstring injury during the start of training camp, and practiced at the "Leo", a hybrid linebacker/end position on the Seahawks' defensive front, on Tuesday.
Seattle's trade of Jackson comes one day after acquiring defensive lineman Kentwan Balmer from the San Francisco 49ers. Balmer was chosen with the 29th overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, one spot after Seattle selected Jackson.
Jackson has three years remaining on his rookie contract, and will earn a $525,000 base salary in 2010.
