Spiller Shines on Center Stage
By admin
Against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night, Buffalo Bills first-round running back C.J. Spiller showed why he was worth the ninth overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Getting the starting nod with Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch sidelined by injuries, Spiller carried the ball 11 times for 54 yards, but it was his dazzling 31-yard touchdown run in the first quarter that provided a glimpse of his game-breaking potential.
"It felt good," Spiller said of his touchdown run. "The offensive line did a great job blocking up front. Coming in, we knew how they were going to play. We knew they were a fast defense and they were going to over-run a couple of our plays. I just did a great job of reading my keys and made a couple of guys miss and just tried to get in there."
The Bills scored just six touchdowns on the ground in 2009, with the longest coming from 31 yards out...by quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Spiller was one of the last members of the 2010 draft class to sign his contract, missing about a week of training camp. Here's a quick look at his contract details, according to a source with access to NFLPA documents:
