Terms of Tom Brady's Contract Extension Finalized

During NBC's halftime show of the 2010 regular season opener between the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints, Sports Illustrated's Peter King announced that New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has told him that a 4-year deal has been finalized with quarterback Tom Brady.

The contract, which ESPN's Adam Schefter reports is worth $72 million with $48.5 million in guarantees, is expected to be announced tomorrow.

Brady is signed through the 2010 season for $6.5 million in total compensation, including $3.5 million in base salary during the regular season. (Brady also had a $3 million roster bonus)

Earlier this week, the Boston Herald reported that the two sides had agreed to contractual parameters on a deal that would add three years and $58 million in "new money" to Brady's contract, which would make Brady the highest paid player, in terms of "Average Per Year", in NFL history.
