Interesting listen.
I was a BIG fan of Melton before the draft (I was disappointed when the Packers took Toure over Melton), so I completely agree that he shouldn't be forgotten!

DuBose was NOT on my radar when we drafted him, but I was WOWED when I watched his highlights after the draft. I honestly believe he is talented enough to be one of the starters on this roster--not that he IS, but that he COULD be. He's such a smoothly athletic contested catch machine; he reminds me a bit of guys like Jerry Rice and Randy Moss, who always made winning a contested catch look easy.

I liked your comments on Wooden--I often found myself wondering if he was improving. They picked him before Brooks, so you know they had belief in his potential.

Melton was a player I wanted in that draft, but he went 29 picks before we picked up Toure. I was hoping we’d take him at 228 when we took Tariq Carpenter. Melton went on the next pick.

The knock on Melton was his catching. He had a tendency to body catch and resulting issues. He was also used as a motion player and gadget a great deal of the time in college and did not run precise routes when not. The physical ability was there but was the desire to perfect and could he master an NFL offense? Sometimes players are held back by their scheme or usage. Melton I think is an example.

He narrowly missed the Seattle roster partly due to injuries limiting him in camp and partly to strong competition at the back end offensively and for STs. I was thrilled when we grabbed him.

What we have seen is he’s really worked on his route running and catching technique. The routes were particularly impressive late this season. That unlocks his quick feet, burst and speed. Definitely one who could ascend much further If he has the opportunity. Actual play in the league trumps draft position, or should do.

I've been on the Grant DuBose bandwagon, for a while now. Was glad to see film of him in TC, last year. Unfortunately, the only way I see him on the 53 and getting snaps, is if someone else gets injured, or traded. Ben Sims has to be our # 3 TE, just ahead of Davis, because of Davis's injury. If Davis can come back from that injury, he may be our #3 TE.

Very insightful analysis. I would like to throw out one more name to add to the list and that is S Anthony Johnson. He was a 7th round pick who was basically learning the position on the fly as he only played 1 year at that position in college, as previously he started at CB. He was thrown into the mix before he was ready due to injuries, but I expect a big jump from him in year 2 with the experience gained in 2023. He was projected to be a mid round pick who dropped to the 7th round and while I wouldn't expect him to be a starter next year, as I think they'll sign at least 1 free agent and spend a high pick on the position, I think he could be the #3 Safety and play some meaningful snaps on defense and special teams for G.B.

Johnson might be a future FS. He has to learn to tackle though. He was not good at that even by our standards last year.

Melton did not disappoint when given a real chance. He was one of the Best WR's in the playoffs. He's a keeper...They all are. Toure needs to really step it up coming into 2024 in order to increase his chances of play time. DuBose was injured ...Hope he returns healthy in 2024 as well as #9...I'm really happy with our WR unit...Never seen so many WR hits by a GM...EVER. I like our TE group also. GPG

DuBose remains an interesting proposition. However, we’ve seen almost nothing of him. He’s really almost an additional pick this year. The obstacle for him is that Wicks isn’t going anywhere and he’s going to have to beat out Heath as well. Heath is very similar in terms of physical attributes and play style. He may have more upside than Heath generally, I don’t know, but Heath is very physical and it’s that that he’s used for in the limited capacity he is used, some of which could be shifted to Musgrave or Kraft to get the best weapons on the field.
