Everything I have read, not CH TV but elsewhere, is that the loss was on the Lions and that they basically gave the game away with the fumbles. Yes that had a part in it but I maintain that we gave the Lions a pretty good arse kicking in their back yard.

They happen to forget about all the packers not available to play including about the enter defensive backfield!

I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight the excellent play of Corey Ballentine. He has filled in for Jaire for the past few weeks, but hasn’t received much mention.
He was born in Jamaica, and was picked in the sixth round of the 2019 draft by the Giants, and has played on several teams (including the Lions) since then. Therefore, he’s more of a veteran than most of this team, and he’s in his prime years.
He is six foot, ran a 4.5 40, had a 40” vertical and 6.8 3-cone, and has long arms. He had a 9.6 RAS! He also was an excellent leader and hard classroom worker. Draft guys saw him as developmental, with great tools and attitude, so it seems the Packers may have picked him up just as he blossomed! I don’t know why, but I got a bit of a “Tramon Williams in 2010 flashback” during this game.

Don’t judge Dillon by his average in this game.
He looked very good in the first half and also blocked well in pass pro.
His average suffered when they ran him in obvious situations in the second half; and our line is terrible at that.

The egregious drop by Reed was really painful; the offense was willing itself down the field in a “need” situation. Luckily, that drop and the “collision “ were the only really important “bad plays” in my opinion. The blown up two point conversion was more on Detroit making a great play.

We beat a very good 8-2 team at home with a bunch of injuries. Totally unexpected. While not a fan of MLF nor our defensive coordinator, they had the team prepared to play hard. We saw the offensive line block and the others execute well called plays. We saw improvement from our young players thrown into the fire of battle and they didn't back down. That was great to see and that made a great Thanksgiving even better. GPG!

"I know Patrick Taylor has the experience in this offense but maybe it's time to see what James Robinson can do?"

That could be, but as I recall, PT picked up the blitz several times. Considering the circumstances, I thought he did everything you could ask of him. His teammates seemed genuinely happy to have him back, so I think he brings some chemistry too.

Jordan Love is a gambler, a bootlegger, a rambler, and a side-armed gunslinger.
That's good stuff from our quarterback, with his demeanor and moderation, and no interceptions, fumbles, or even sacks taken.

Our young guys in general will inevitably have their ups and downs, but I'm hopeful that it will be fun to watch as an overall upward progression.
Keep the energy coming, and the focus.
Most of our games so far this season have had drama until the very end, and if we play the rest of them all the way through to the final second with determination, we just may eke out a trip to the playoffs.

Either Love can't get in sync with Watson's speed, or he doesn't have the arm to throw that long. Once again, on the first pass, Watson had to slow down, and wait for the ball. Last year Watson was much better, but Rodgers could throw it long and drop it in his hands, while Watson could maintain his speed. That Love throw could have been a TD if Love could throw it further. Watch the passes to Watson during this season; he constantly has to slow down or go back to fight a CB or safety for the ball,

Good article, and pretty close.
However, I doubt I was the only one waiting and cringing for Joe Barry to give this game away, the last 4 minutes were excruciating.
'Optimist' above mentioned Ballentine, and I thought he played a hella-good game, but I think Jonathon Owen also deserves at least an honorable mention. His TD was great and his tackling was good, he's not the fastest guy but came to play, and he did, his play and awareness helped. Also nice to see some of the Rooks show up, it suggests some hope for the future for Barry's replacement.
While the 'D' generally played well the Joe Barry scheme certainly limits them, and if not for a poor game by Goff this would have been way different. Thanks to Rashan Gary and pass rush for a hell of a game.
As for the offense, they scored 6 points in the final 35 minutes, and reverted to dancing (run-two-three-kick) again at the end of the game despite MLF's promise to not get conservative. He has NO semblance of a 'Shanahan Disciple", no creativity, no killer instinct, and no clue.
We luckily got away with a Win.

Game Balls: Jordan Love, Christian Watson and Rashon Gary. I think that the game is beginning to "slow down" for Jordan Love. He is making better decisions and he is placing the ball better for his receivers. Hopefully he gets some of the weapons back in time for the Chiefs game.
Watson had his best game of the season and probably the best game of his career. He was great in the first half.
Gary was a dominant player on defense in this game. He had 3 sacks against the Lions.

Lame Calls: Packers Defense allowed over 450 yards against the Lions. 140 on the ground. Fortunately the Lions stopped themselves on some of their drives.
MLF play calls after Love's long run late in the 4th quarter. Love ran down to the Lions 42. Then MLF calls 3 run plays and a punt. I would have expected at least one pass play during that series to get into FG range and extend the Packers lead to 32-14. That would have iced the game at that point with about 3 minutes to play. Fortunately, after a Lions TD the Packers recovered the onside kick to seal the win.

It was a great win on the road for the Packers. Looking forward the Packers schedule looks very favorable for a playoff (wild card) run except for the Chiefs game. If the Packers can get some of their players back, Alexander, Musgrave, Campbell and Jones especially, and clean up some of their continuing mistakes anything is possible. Go Pack Go! Thanksgiving Day Massacre November 23, 2023.

Not of the 1962 Thanksgiving Day Massacre where the 8-2 Lions dominated the 10-0 Packers. There were similarities...in Detroit, another 8-2 Lions team. But the vast majority of fans in the stands and watching on TV believed this would be another easy dismantling of the 4-6 Packers.

I think the Lions were reading too many press clippings of #1 seeds, Campbell is "coach of the year", the O is unstoppable, Packers all banged up with a duct tape, baler twine roster, and so on.

Hubris often precedes the fall.

I've got a lame call and it's on the Fox Network. They are the only network of the three that I watched with yesterdays football games that didn't have a TURKEY LEG to give to the player of the game. Jordan Love should have gotten a turkey leg and if John Madden had been on that network, Jordan would have gotten one.

My favorite play of the game was TJ Slaton hustling back downfield on the missed field goal return and being in the neighborhood of the tackle. Pretty much covers the hustle and physical play the team showed yesterday.

Wow get a nice win and all the negativity here. Surprised me, thought the team had a hell of a win, sure some mistakes but they beat and rather handily an 8-2 team.

Yesterday was a blast, I had family at the game, Lions fans...man, they were angry..five Thanksgiving games they've gone to now, five loses..people were pisssed in the stands where as they were very cocky before the game...this is a good "pump the brakes" article though...lets not get too carried away just yet...one of the things that got to me was the second half and MLF's play calling seemed to go into a "lets prevent any mistakes" type offense....the three run plays after Loves long run...those were bad..why not go for it, the dagger, 3 runs and a punt good thing they got away with that series...bring on Mahomes and the Chiefs...lets see if the progress holds...

From what I saw on the missed extra point, the laces were facing the kicker.
Given the opposition and injuries, defense did well the first part of the game.
Our receivers and QB seemed to be on the same page.
As the announcer pointed out, our offensive line is better at pass blocking than run blocking.

FPQB had better or better to say more experienced WR and TE, better OL and similar D. I was stunned when I learned about that stats!

I want to mention the play of Malik Heath. 4 catches for 46 yards and caught all his targets. Packers have a great group of rookie WRs and TEs.

It was clear what the Lions believed about the Packers D. They continued to run and run and run, even when it wasn’t practical to do so.
But Barry’s D actually played the run better than expected, although we still gave up more than 450 yards. As someone already mentioned, that’s unacceptable.
Methinks when Musgrave returns, a two TE offense might look pretty good.
The Chiefs are stumbling a little, I think we have a chance.
