49ers DE Ray McDonald Arrested For Suspicion of DUI

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports that San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald was arrested Saturday morning in San Mateo County on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

"The 49ers are aware of the recent matter involving Ray McDonald," a 49ers spokesman wrote in a statement to Comcast SportsNet. "Ray informed the organization of the situation immediately Saturday evening.

We take these issues very seriously, but will reserve further comment at this time, as this is an ongoing legal matter. The 49ers will continue to gather the facts and monitor the developments closely."

A third-round pick (97th overall) out of the University of Florida in 2007, McDonald has started nine of the 40 games he's appeared in, all during the 2008 season. Overall, McDonald has 38 tackles, including 7 for a loss and 5 quarterback sacks, with 5 passes defensed and two fumble recoveries for the 49ers.

The 25-year old is once again expected to serve in a back-up role for the 49ers this season.
