49ers Name Trent Baalke VP of Player Personnel

The San Francisco 49ers announced that Trent Baalke has been named Vice President of Player Personnel.

Baalke will be responsible for all aspects of player personnel, including the draft, free agency, trades and re-signings. Baalke will continue to oversee both the college and pro scouting departments, as well.

"We are very excited to reward Trent with this promotion," 49ers Team President and CEO Jed York said of Baalke. "During his tenure with the 49ers, Trent has exhibited leadership, organization and superb skills as a talent evaluator. Those attributes have served our team well in recent months. We have a great talent in Trent that we are pleased to have leading our personnel department moving forward."

In addition to Baalke's promotion, the 49ers announced that Director of Pro Personnel Tom Gamble has been assigned additional college scouting responsibilities, Joel Patten has been named Director of College Scouting, replacing David McCloughan, former general manager Scot McCloughan's brother, who left the organization earlier this month. In the scouting department, Matt Malaspina has been promoted from an area scout position to National Scout, South Region scout Justin Chabot will now scout the Southeast Region, and the newly hired scout Bob Morris will take over the scouting in the South Region.

"I am thankful for the opportunity the 49ers organization has given me," said Baalke. "This position comes with a certain level of responsibility to the team as well as its fans, and it is one that I take a lot of pride in. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work with some tremendous people. I plan to draw from those experiences in an effort to help the 49ers return to the championship level of play that this franchise and its fans deserve."
