Bengals OT Andre Smith Could Be Lost For Season

Cincinnati Bengals right tackle Andre Smith could be lost for the season after breaking the fifth metatarsal in his left foot, Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The sixth overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft missed most of his rookie season after breaking the same bone in the same foot two days after a lengthy contract impasse caused him to miss most of his rookie training camp. Smith underwent surgery on the foot in February of this year, which kept him out of the OTAs, mini-camp, and this year's training camp, which affected his conditioning and weight.

Smith (6-4, 345) has started four of the seven games he's been active this season, including the last three. Smith was briefly benched during Monday night's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, which he didn't let get to him.

"It doesn't really hurt your pride," Smith said of the benching yesterday "It can if you let it deter you a little bit. But it's up to you to have your mojo to go out there and compete and collect yourself."
