Chargers TE Antonio Gates Signs 5-Yr Extension

San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates has signed a five-year extension, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Financial details are still unclear, but Acee reports that Gates is now signed through the 2015 season.

Gates is entering the final year of a 6-year, $22.5 million dollar contract extension, which will pay the six-time Pro Bowler $3.625 million dollars.

The former basketball player from Kent State University has caught 479 passes for 6,223 yards and 8 touchdowns during his seven-year career. The 6-4, 260-pounder has battled toe injuries over the last few seasons, but hasn't missed a game since the 2005 season, and has only missed three games total for his career.

In eight career playoff games, Gates has caught 39 passes for 449 yards and a touchdown.
