Publicly Funded Stadium in Downtown San Diego Still Alive

Last night, the San Diego City Council unanimously set aside $500,000 for a study into the downtown's redevelopment future, which may open up public funds for a downtown stadium for the San Diego Chargers within two years, Matthew Hall of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

According to Hall, Chargers special counsel Mark Fabiani said a "No" vote would have been "a pretty clear message" that a downtown stadium wasn't going to happen. Fabiani and Mayor Jerry Sanders support efforts to construct an $800 million dollar stadium on a 10-acre site that borders on Petco Park's parking lot.
