Rams LB David Vobora Sues Supplement Maker

St. Louis Rams linebacker David Vobora has filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages against S.W.A.T.S, a supplement-maker Vobora contends is selling a product that contains a banned substance, Robert Patrick of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Vobora was suspended for four games by the National Football League last season. Within his lawsuit, Vobora contends that a Tennessee lab detected "methyltestosterone" in "The Ultimate Spray" that Vobora began using in 2009.

Methyltestosterone is an anabolic steroid used to treat men with a testosterone deficiency, and women who are undergoing breast cancer treatment. According to www.mesomorphisis.com, Methyltestosterone is "used to stimulate aggression among power lifters and those looking to boost up their workouts".

"There is no banned substance in the spray," SWATS owner Mitch Ross told the Post-Dispatch on Tuesday.

The last player chosen in the 2008 NFL Draft, the former Idaho Vandal appeared in 8 games and made one start as a rookie, totaling 15 tackles. Last season, Vobora earned a starting job in training camp, and in 12 games (10 starts), totaled 46 tackles, including 5 on special teams, and a pair of passes defensed.

Playing for the league minimum of $385,000, Vobora's four-game suspension cost him $90,588 in salary. Missing a quarter of the regular season also hurt Vobora when it came time to dole out "performance-based pay". Vobora earned an additional $124,843 in the final year of the program, and a higher playing-time percentage could have increased his income by another $50,000-$60,000.
