Texans WR Andre Johnson Picks Up Three National Endorsements

With 587 receptions, 7,948 yards, 42 touchdowns, and 4 Pro Bowls during his seven-year career, Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson is no stranger to NFL fans. Despite his production, the Texans lack of playoff appearances and Johnson lacking the diva gene hasn't made him as recognizable in an airport as a Terrell Owens or Chad Ochocinco.
John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that's about to change, as Johnson has signed endorsement deals with Verizon Wireless, Muscle Milk, and Brand Joy.
"That plays a big part in it," Johnson said of his clean image. "They (the companies) don't want somebody having problems or controversy in the media. They want guys with clean images. That's something that's important to me."
Dissatisfied with the five years and $35 million remaining on a long-term extension signed in 2007, Johnson was going to skip the OTAs to get a new deal. Johnson's protest lasted less than a week before he reported to the voluntary sessions.
After hiring Kennard McGuire to represent him--Johnson was previously represented by his uncle, Andre Melton--Johnson was rewarded earlier this month with a new long-term contract that included $38 million in "new money" and $13 million in guarantees. Now Johnson has three national endorsement deals providing him with supplemental income.
"This is an opportunity I've worked hard for, and I'm taking advantage of it," said Johnson. "Those three companies see something in me."
