Pete Carroll Sticking With Hasselbeck

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck had a third consecutive sub-par game during Sunday's 20-3 loss to the St. Louis Rams, but head coach Pete Carroll is sticking with the 35-year old.

"Matt needs to fight though this with the guys and see if we can work our way through it," Carroll said via Eric Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune.

Hasselbeck completed 20-of-36 pass attempts for 191 yards and an interception, compiling a 58.9 passer rating, his second sub-60.0 passer rating in four games this season. Overall, Hasselbeck has completed 61.1% of his 126 pass attempts, but has just four touchdowns and six interceptions for a 70.7 rating, placing him right on the cut of PFT's "Kordoza Line".

After going to three Pro Bowls between 2003 and 2008, Hasselbeck is in his third offensive system in three years, but isn't making any excuses for himself.

"I’ve got to get better," Hasselbeck said on Sunday. "I need to own this offense a little bit more, master it a little bit better. The week that we had of practice was great, but we’ve got to play that way on Sundays."

While segments of the 12th Man would like to see what Charlie Whitehurst can do under center, the NFC West remains wide open and Carroll is smart to stick with Hasselbeck, who has demonstrated the ability to lead the team to a division title.
